New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – @ Philly – L 17-39

QB: Brees was rushed heavily and had some passes dropped.  Still put up good numbers as garbage time saved him.  Protection should be better than this.

RB: Ingram an average game as deficit limited touches.  Looked good and was moving piles and getting extra yards.  Would have been a huge game for him if the score was close.

WR: Cooks and Snead huge games although a decent chunk for both came in garbage time.  Snead is the clear #2 option now and worth owning in leagues and starting when the match up is right.  Not a superstar but a solid player.  Skills are good overall but not elite anywhere.

TE: Watson a nice game making a TD grab.  Still not being targeted enough to use and justifiably so.  He’s a savvy veteran but the skills aren’t really there anymore.

OL: Solid run blocking.  Was making good holes for runners.  Awful pass protection.  Just couldn’t handle D line at times.  Has to be better than this.

Def: Pretty awful everywhere.  Got ran on almost at will by O.  Pass rush was nonexistent.  Pass coverage was actually fairly good but it came against weaker receiving corps.  Gave up good games everywhere.

Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – vs NO – W 39-17

QB: Bradford mostly good despite two really terrible throws for picks in the end zone early.  Suffered from some horribly timed drops by his receivers as well.  Starting to look better but this came against a weak D.

RB: Murray and Mathews big games with similar numbers despite Murray getting over double the number of touches.  Got good blocking and ran well.  Good receiving game for Murray.  Probably too late to buy low now.

WR: Matthews an okay game and didn’t look particularly good here.  Dropped a sure and easy TD, although a penalty would have negated it.  No idea who the #2 is.  Huff had good game but not trusting yet.

TE: Celek and Ertz had nice games with Celek getting the TD.  Looks like a TE-by-committee situation right now and not worth playing if it can be avoided.  No one is running away with the job.  Look like the same player.

OL: Big improvement overall against a weak D.  Negated pass rush.  Was actually getting some push on run plays.  Have to hope this keeps up.

Def: Pass rush was very good.  The rest wasn’t.  Wasn’t stopping the run before big lead forced the pass.  Got thrown on for plenty before garbage time.  Gave up big games to WRs and TE.

Green Bay Packers Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – vs St. Louis – W 24-10

QB: Rodgers not himself in this one.  Pass rush was getting to him a bit.  Wasn’t as accurate as usual.  His bad is still most other QBs good, however.

RB: Lacy held to very little.  Just never got any room to run.  Line did nothing for him.  Not his fault.

WR: Cobb held to little.  Wasn’t looked at too often.  Jones and Montgomery good games although Montgomery’s TD came on blown coverage.  Doesn’t look better than other WRs on team yet.  Jones is legit.

TE: Rodgers a nice PPR game.  Getting more involved and worth a start in the right situations at this point.  Can no longer ignore.  Also noting noting, his good game came when Cobb had bad one.

OL: Not great.  Did nothing for run game.  Couldn’t handle pass rush and was masked by elite QB, to some extent.  Was losing the battle against great D line.

Def: Pass rush dominated.  Was the difference in the game and can’t be understated how good they were.  Got run on at will.  Couldn’t stop runner as they weren’t able to clog anything around the line.  Gave up good game to RB only.

St. Louis Rams Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – @ GB – L 10-24

QB: Foles terrible as pass rush was in his face all game.  No one could of handled it in this one.  Will be better than this as run game is beginning to be a factor.

RB: Gurley a big game and was a work horse.  Still doesn’t do a ton of cutting but it’s not hurting him.  Staying North-South and looks fine doing it.

WR: Austin another TD but not much else.  They are finding ways to get him the ball and he might be a fairly consistent play at this point.  Starting to believe.  Not sure who other WR is.  May need a few weeks to play out.

TE: Cook did little.  Was victim of QB play but inconsistent as usual.

OL: Run blocking was very strong in this one.  Really opened holes and held blocks nicely.  Pass protection was horrendous.  Blitz was coming nearly every play and they just couldn’t handle it early or late.

Def: Helped by a good O having bad game.  Run D was stout.  Was winning the battle up front.  Pass rush was pretty solid as well.  Team made some great plays against an elite QB.  Gave up good games to #2 and #3 WR.  Held rest to little.

Indianapolis Colts Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – @ Houston – W 27-20

QB: Hasselbeck a solid game and, again, didn’t try to do anything crazy.  Managed the game well and made all the conservative throws you want to see.  Veteran savvy showed nicely here.

RB: Gore a big game and ran great behind nice blocking.  Will have a tougher time against better run Ds but still looks as productive as ever from a physical perspective.

WR: Hilton a nice game and Johnson a monster in a revenge match up.  Don’t expect it to continue at all.  Moncrief took a backseat because of it.  Should be fine in the weeks to come.

TE: Allen held to little.  Will be fine when Luck returns but I’d stay away until then.

OL: Solid game against tough D line.  Held good pass rush completely in check.  Was great in run blocking against weak D.  Hope it continues but not counting on it.

Def: Strong game against the run.  Filled holes and made tackles when needed.  Pass coverage was bad as they didn’t really put Davis on Hopkins for some reason.  Gave up big games to #1 WR and receiving RB.

Houston Texans Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – vs Indy – L 20-27

QB: Mallett benched after bad start.  Hoyer played extremely well until final inexplicable throw that was a reminder he isn’t that good.  Just a mess.

RB: Foster looked like he was moving really well but line did him no favors.  Had good game as a receiver.  Back to being a must-start now.

WR: Hopkins a big game and is a stud, especially considering the QB situation.  Continues to look like one of the top 5 most talented WRs in the league right now.  Rookie Strong nabbed 2 TDs but both were fluky in their own way (hail mary, blown coverage).  Have to see more.

TE: Ignore.

OL: Did nothing for run game.  Has to be a bit of a concern right now.  Protected fairly well but QBs helped mask it a bit.  Doesn’t look good as a unit at the moment.

Def: Got run on easily.  Just looks like a terrible run D at times.  Coverag on WRs was bad.  Pass rush held in check in this one.  Gave up good games to RB and #1 and #3 WRs.  Good job on TEs.
