Miami Dolphins

2015

Week 1 – @ Washington – W 17-10

QB: Tannehill looked solid but still took some hits.  Going to be a little more risky because of that.  Accuracy was good and should be consistent all season.

RB: Miller okay against tough run D.  Wasn’t as involved in the passing game as you want but that should come.  Still looks like a great player.

WR: Landry continues to be PPR stud.  Just gets open and catches everything.  Essentially, he’s Wes Welker with more speed.  Matthews a TD but nothing to get excited about.

TE: Cameron looked great as expected.  A highlight reel catch to go with the good numbers.  Should be a stud as long as he’s on the field.

OL: Had trouble against tough run D, especially early.  Pass protection was mostly good.  Got better as the game went on.

Def: Got surprised with quick hit stuff early but adjusted and looked good later despite huge TOP disparity.  Should be better moving forward.  Gave up good games to RB, TE, and #1 WR.

Week 2 – @ Jacksonville – L 20-23

QB: Tannehill a good game and continues to look pretty good but still getting hit a little more than you want.  He’s tough but the fear of injury has to be higher for him than others.  Really good as a thrower right now.

RB: Miller nearly shutout on the ground but an okay PPR game.  Line killed him.  Should be better but can’t do anything getting hit in backfield.  A little concerned.

WR: Matthews a big game and certainly looked pretty good.  Could be the #2 WR on this team at the moment.  Landry another strong PPR game.  Such a stud and just makes the catch on everything thrown his way.  He’ll finish top 20 easily.

TE: Cameron a nice game and continues to look good while on the field.  Just a matter of staying healthy for him.

OL: Terrible run blocking and okay pass protection.  Really need them to get better so this offense can thrive.  Has to be a better run blocking unit than this.

Def: Run D wasn’t great and was torched by average passing attack.  Have to question this D a little after this game.  Should not have been this bad.  Pass rush is not as good as it should be.  Gave up monster to #1 WR.  Decent games to RB and #2 WR.

Week 3 – vs Buffalo – L 14-41

QB: Tannehill looked pretty awful despite okay fantasy numbers.  Couldn’t handle pressure at all and made some terrible throws that were easily picked.  Just can’t play this badly.

RB: Miller an average game with receiving added in.  Looks fine but just isn’t getting the touches he should get.  Way too talented to not get the ball.

WR: Matthews a monster game although his long TD should not have happened.  Continues to look really good and can’t be ignored anymore.  Landry a solid PPR game and continues putting up good numbers.  He’s a must-start in PPR pretty much rest of season now.

TE: Cameron did little as coverage was tough.  Should still get more production than this but the bad days will happen when the QB struggles.

OL: Had a lot of trouble with constant blitz.  Not looking all that great right now.  QB play made them look a little worse in this one.

Def: Trounced.  Got ran over badly by run game.  Gave up plenty through the air.  Just not the D that everyone expected right now.  Playing terribly.  Gave up big games to RB and TE.  Decent games to WRs.

Week 4 – vs NYJ (London) – L 14-27

QB: Tannehill pretty bad again.  Blitz was killing him and he is going to have to get better really fast against that.  Looks like a bad start against any heavy blitz teams.

RB: Miller still not getting anywhere near the touches he needs.  His lack of touches is part of why they are losing so that could certainly change with the coaching move.  Could be a buy low right now.

WR: Stills a good game and probably benefited from other receivers getting more attention.  Wouldn’t trust.  Landry average but had a TD erased by penalty.  Matthews almost nothing.  Both will probably bounce back.

TE: Cameron did little.  Hopefully, he’ll also benefit from coaching change as he needs to see more targets for this team to be good as well.

OL: Is playing terrible against the heavy blitz.  Just isn’t picking it up and QB is doing them no favors.  Run blocking is okay but it can’t be done when you are trailing quickly.

Def: Trounced on the ground again.  This D looks horrific right now, especially considering the talent.  Coverage isn’t bad but they aren’t good enough to stop elite WRs.  Gave up huge game to RB.  Good games to WRs.

Week 5 – Bye

Week 6 – @ Tennessee – W 38-10

QB: Tannehill a decent game but had some trouble with pressure.  Still takes too many hits and just isn’t getting much better at reading the D pre-snap.

RB: Miller a big game and was finally given the touches he should be getting every week.  Could be a monster rest of season if they allow him to continue running it like this.  On the cusp of being an elite talent.

WR: Matthews another solid game and continues to produce while not looking like a star.  Looks more like a perfect fit for the offense than an elite WR.  Landry a good game getting a rushing TD.  They keep forcing the ball to him and he keeps producing.  Keep starting him regardless of match up.

TE: Cameron a good game and nabbed a TD.  Should be good and especially good as long as other players around him stay healthy.

OL: Great game all-around.  Opened big holes for running game and protected well while QB still makes them look worse than they are.

Def: Looked like what we expected at beginning of season.  Very good overall and really stuffed a struggling run game.  TE had good game but coverage on everyone else was good.

Week 7 – vs Houston – W 44-26

QB: Tannehill a huge game and did so despite running game dominating.  Only 1 incomplete and it was a drop.  Still took some hits and sacks but played amazing otherwise.

RB: Miller a monster game doing it both and the ground and as a receiver.  One of the better runners in the league when he gets space.  Runs well in traffic with his good vision.  Should continue getting a ton of touches.

WR: Landry another huge game and will continue to dominate.  Is just incredible after the catch and they are making sure he gets the ball with space.  Matthews a good game although his long TD came on mistake by safety.  Still think he’ll get shutdown by elite coverage.

TE: Cameron did little but only 2 throws.  Will be better when WRs aren’t dominating.

OL: Great game run blocking.  Just blew away D.  Had some trouble with Watt but was strong in protection otherwise.

Def: Good against the run but elite RB still got his numbers.  Covered #1 WR well.  Pass rush was stronger than it’s been.  Gave up monster games to #2 WR and RB.

2014

Week 1 – vs NE – W 33-20

QB: Ryan Tannehill ended up with an okay game.  Threw a bunch of balls behind WRs.  His WRs made him look better on stat sheet by catching quite a few behind them.  Was protected well.

RB: Lamar Miller and Knowshon Moreno both looked very good.  Oddly, Miller caught 4 passes to Moreno’s zero.  They probably get far fewer touches in a closer game.  Moreno was workhorse for this one.

WR: Mike Wallace looked good.  Brian Hartline hurt by bad throws.  Wallace was doing a pretty good job of beating coverage.  Just wasn’t getting the ball where it needed to be this game.

TE: Charles Clay will likely be better in closer games.  Makes surprising plays when he gets the ball in space.

OL: Looked very good.  Allowed the RBs to get to the second level all game and pass blocked well.  Could be a top unit if they play like that every game.

Def: Overall, looked very good.  D-line was dominating.  Abused NE’s center anytime he went one-on-one.  Was disrupting in the middle all game.

Week 2 – @ Buffalo – L 10-29

QB: Tannehill faced a heavy rush all game.  No time to throw down field.  Virtually every completion was around the line.  Hit a ton along with a few bad decisions on throws.

RB: Moreno injured and out a while.  Miller looked good against a tough D when blocking was there.  Could be a solid start now with Moreno out.

WR: Wallace pretty good again.  Amazing catch on TD with tight coverage.  Just getting it done right now.  Hartline average but Tannehill came up short on a long one that would have been sure TD.  Landry looked very good.

TE: Clay a lot of catches, few yards.  Just have to hope he gets an easy TD some weeks.  Too small to be the go-to guy in red zone.

OL: Got blitzed a ton and couldn’t handle pressure up the middle.  Pocket collapsed too fast all game.  Run blocking was decent but deficit made it irrelevant.

Def: Stacked the line to stop the run and did well except for one big play by Spiller.  Got torched by Watkins all game but covered Woods well.  Pass rush wasn’t great.

Week 3 – vs KC- L 15-34

QB: Another average game for Tannehill.  Just isn’t doing a lot but has played some good D lines.  Isn’t handling pass rush well.

RB: Miller looked great.  Line was opening huge holes and he took advantage.  Really emerging at the moment.

WR: Wallace a good PPR game and Hartline a good game because of a TD.  QB play is hurting both but they still get it done quietly, sometimes.

TE: Clay did little.  Seems to really disappear at times.  Should be a better PPR play.

OL: Excellent game run blocking.  Average against a good pass rush.  Could dominate on the ground if they had a lead.

Def: Obliterated on the ground.  Gave up huge game to nearly unknown WR and good game to TE.  Just not a good game at all.

Week 4 – (London) Oakland – W 38-14

QB: Tannehill looked good against weak D.  Ran well.  Wasn’t getting rushed too much.  Line made it easy for him.

RB: Miller looked good but big lead limited carries.  Thomas and Williams both looked okay in garbage time.  Still a clear drop off from Miller.

WR: Hartline and Wallace both decent games.  Hartline got some longer looks.  Either could get long TDs at any time.  Just a matter of who gets the throws.

TE: Clay did little.  Still believe he is okay option when the game will be competitive.

OL: Looked dominant again, especially on the ground.  As expected, has the ability to dominate on the ground when they get a lead.  Pass blocking was solid but not as strong.

Def: Bad QB play and sub-par RBs made this easy.  Stopped the ground game, as expected.  Got plenty of TOs.  Did give up good games to WRs.

Week 5 – Bye

Week 6 – vs GB – L 24-27

QB: Decent numbers but some bad throws by Tannehill, especially the 2 INTs.  Made up for it a little by some good runs.

RB: Miller a big game with rushing and receiving combined.  Continues to look very good when given space.  Moreno injured and done for the season.

WR: Wallace a big game and is getting it done every week.  A must-start for now regardless of match up.  Hartline zero catches and rarely looked at.  Landry was pretty awesome both receiving and on KR.  Worth keeping an eye on and might be a really good fantasy player very soon.

TE: Clay average here.  Looks good but just isn’t going to get a ton of throws with the other options on this team and might not be capable of getting open that often.

OL: Did little for run game but numbers looked good because of long QB run.  Pass blocking wasn’t too bad.  Gave QB enough time and space most of the game.

Def: Decent against the run.  Didn’t give up any big runs.  Torched by WRs for 20 catches, 242 yards, and 2 TDs.  Hasn’t played an offense like this so far and got abused.

Week 7 – @ Chicago – W 27-14

QB: Tannehill had good blocking but still took quite a few hits.  Ran well and had good game.  Was really accurate.

RB: Miller had big game because of TD.  Looked decent but could break anything big on the ground.  Thomas was solid on his touches.  Looks too patient at times.

WR: Wallace another big game getting a TD.  Continues as a must-start.  Landry outperformed Hartline again.  Might be real close to being the #2 here although probably not yet.

TE: Clay a big game getting a TD.  Certainly worth a look when the match up is good.

OL: Looked really good this game.  Pass blocking was good as sacks were mostly QB’s fault.  Run blocking was strong but RBs weren’t able to break any long ones.

Def: Excellent game.  Coverage on receivers was phenomenal, especially considering opponent.  Couldn’t contain RB but most of his damage came on check downs because of coverage.  Run D wasn’t great but big lead hid that.

Week 8 – @ Jacksonville – W 27-13

QB: Tannehill a decent game with rushing tacked on but wasn’t very accurate.  Still taking too many hits, even in games where he shouldn’t.

RB: Miller solid but no TD.  A really good option when match up is right.  Woudn’t trust Thomas if he got the job.

WR: Wallace only 2 catches but one a big play.  No TD but continues to be fairly good for fantasy.  Landry outproduced Hartline again.  Not a good enough offense to get excited about but worth noting Landry’s play.

TE: Clay 1 catch for 1 yard.  Enough said.

OL: Line a decent job both run and pass blocking.  Sacks were mostly QB’s fault.  Good job against mid-level D.

Def: Got run on by RB and QB.  Gave up big game to WR Robinson (#2?) because of late blown coverage in prevent D.  Good job on other receivers and TE.

Week 9 – vs SD – W 37-0

QB: Tannehill another huge game.  Line picked up the blitz really well and he made good throws.  Would be practically match-up-proof if his receivers were better.

RB: Miller a good game getting a TD but surprisingly few carries considering lead.  Williams and Thomas ran far worse behind him.  Williams runs tough but not patient.  There’s a big drop off in talent here.

WR: Hartline, Wallace, and Landry decent games with Landry getting a TD.  Just hard to trust any of these for a guaranteed big game.  Landry really continues to impress.

TE: Clay a big game with a TD and should have had a second but a bad throw by QB.  Decent option but low ceiling.

OL: Run blocking was decent but expected better against this opponent.  Really good pass blocking.  Was picking up blitzes extremely well.

Def: Amazing game but helped by off-day for great QB.  Run D was shutdown.  Not much of a pass rush.  Gave up average games for WRs and TE but would have been bigger games with better QB play.

Week 10 – @ Detroit – L 16-20

QB: Tannehill got hit quite a bit and was never real comfortable in the pocket.  Average game as D-line played well.  Should have had 2nd TD but receiver dropped it.

RB: Williams got the most work and looks great because of almost elite speed and quickness.  Despite this game, overall talent doesn’t look like he is too far above other RBs on this team, yet.  Miller and Thomas did little.

WR: Wallace a good game getting a TD.  Landry has clearly passed Hartline as the #2 and has incredible speed.  A nice flier any week with the right match up.

TE: Clay a good PPR game but dropped a TD late.  Still a decent choice with the right match up.

OL: Had trouble with elite D-line and got QB rushed and hit a bit.  Should have been better run blocking.  Couldn’t run to the outside and don’t know why they tried.

Def: Run D was decent on limited runs.  Torched by QB to WRs.  DBs just flat got beat by better talent.  Held RBs and unused TE position to little.

Week 11 – vs Buffalo – W 22-9

QB: Tannehill got hit a ton but had good game.  Was incredibly accurate in this one and looked very poised against the pressure.

RB: Miller played injured and played well.  Good game and wasn’t afraid to hit with the shoulder.  Thomas and Williams had small contributions but still look very good when they get their chances.

WR: Wallace and Hartline average games.  Landry a good game getting a TD.  Really looks like a good grab and looks like he’ll be consistent, especially with a good match up like this.

TE: Clay decent but seemed like he’s well down the list of options.  Starting to be too many mouths to feed for him to have big games.

OL: Really good run blocking considering opponent.  Almost makes RBs match up-proof.  Struggled against pass rush and got QB hit a ton but part of the blame lies with QB.

Def: Great game but didn’t get any TOs.  Strong against both aspects of the O.  Gave up good PPR games to RB and #3 WR.  Held everything else to little.

Week 12 – @ Denver – L 36-39

QB: Tannehill a big game including the rushing TD.  Wasn’t able to hit any big plays but took what the defense gave him and capitalized on it.

RB: Miller decent but got TD vultured from him.  Looks to be getting more healthy and back to his earlier self.  Thomas got the TD and is a good runner but still a clear step down in talent from Miller.

WR: Landry a huge game as expected and is clearly a great option with a match up like this one (good run D, good CB on Wallace).  Wallace a good game as well getting a nice TD grab.

TE: Clay DNP.  Other TEs do not matter for now.

OL: Solid game.  Good run blocking against strong run D but not dominant.  Kept QB mostly clean.

Def: Awful game compared to how they’ve been playing.  Got run over on the ground.  Gave up monster games to QB, RB, and #1 WR.  Big game by #2 WR as well.  Held backup TEs to nothing.

Week 13 – @ NYJ – W 16-13

QB: Tannehill did little and was a little off in this one.  Didn’t get much on the ground.  Everything was contained by D.

RB: Miller a good game because of late TD.  Ran well against tough D.  Continues to look better than people probably realize.

WR: Wallace and Landry decent games and Landry continues to be PPR star.  Don’t think he should be sat rest of season considering how he is playing.

TE: Clay DNP.  Sims a solid game in relief.  Big target but Clay is clearly a better player.

OL: Pretty good all-around.  Not a spectacular performance but did enough to give O a chance to do what they needed.

Def: Got ran on for a ton.  Team chose not to throw.  Gave up good games to runners.  Nothing else mattered due to game-plan.

Week 14 – vs Baltimore – L 13-28

QB: Tannehill hit a ton in this one.  Amazing he hasn’t gotten himself hurt at this point.

RB: Miller a decent game but deficit limited carries.  Looks really good and might be undervalued in fantasy next season.

WR: Wallace below-average.  Just not enough throws.  Landry a good PPR game and should be a great sleeper in PPR next season.

TE: Clay okay but not enough looks.  Think Landry and Miller are taking a lot of his production away.

OL: Strong run blocking but terrible pass blocking.  QB added on to the badness but still a bad effort in pass protection.

Def: Gashed badly by the run.  Didn’t cover WRs well.  No pass rush.  Gave up big games to everything except TE.

Week 15 – @ NE – L 13-41

QB: Tannehill a decent fantasy game but still taking too many hits.  Surprised he’s stayed up all season.  Is going to take a toll on him eventually.

RB: Miller looked good but an average fantasy game.  Deficit limited carries.  Still might be undervalued in drafts next season.

WR: Wallace and Landry both good games.  Landry is a stud PPR play at this point.  Has great hands and the ability to break one at any time.

TE: Clay a decent game but need to see this consistently.  Has the talent to do it but it doesn’t seem either coaches or QB doesn’t trust him enough.

OL: Decent game.  Run blocking was fair and pass protection was solid but QB gets himself hit every week so they suffer.

Def: Run D was not great and couldn’t stop stars in passing game.  Have to hope road game in the north hurt.  Gave up good games to total RBs, QB, #2 WR, and TE.  Decent game to #1 WR.

Week 16 – vs Minnesota – W 37-35

QB: Tannehill a huge game and did almost everything with short passes.  Receivers made some big plays for him but he did a great job taking what was given.

RB: Miller a huge game both rushing and receiving.  Just a stud with the right match up and will probably be undervalued next season.  Williams a good receiving game and definitely a nice backup/handcuff option.

WR: Wallace a big game making a phenomenal play on one of 2 TDs.  Landry a ton of catches around the line but wasn’t able to get anything after the catch.  Showed great hands but was contained extremely well by D.

TE: Clay a big game and still a good option with the right match up.  Sims really starting to play well and could be a starter in the near future.

OL: Pretty strong all-around.  Mostly negated pass rush despite QB taking a few hits.

Def: Didn’t stop the run too well but pass rush was pretty good.  Had QB moving a lot.  Coverage clearly good.  Gave up good games to RB and WRs.  Would have been good game for total TEs if non-TD call was overturned.

Week 17 – vs NYJ – L 24-37

QB: Tannehill an average game and was hit a ton.  Just hasn’t learned to get rid of the ball when the pressure comes.  Amazing he wasn’t injured this season.

RB: Miller a huge game despite getting vultured once.  Looks incredible and has the potential to have a monster year next season.

WR: Hartline a good game but wouldn’t trust it.  Wallace nothing but clearly something weird happened.  Landry an okay game but looked much better than stats suggest.  Definite PPR grab next season.

TE: Clay a good game and could be very good next season but might also lose more targets to Sims.  Could easily see Sims being a surprise next season.

OL: Good run blocking but couldn’t handle pass rush and looked worse on stat sheet because of QB.  Probably a better line overall than they get credit for.

Def: Strong against the run.  Torched by the worst QB in the league.  Stunning performance.  Gave up monster games to QB and #1 WR.  Not much else was needed for O.
