Last Minute Fantasy Football Pickups of Week 6 – Fitzpatrick and 49ers D

Not a bad week for most of my picks last week so hopefully that will continue into week 6.  RB seems to get uglier and uglier every week and the pickings are slim.  As always, I’ll be using the own percentage from CBS Sports since they are usually the highest.  If you play on other sites, these guys should be more available.  Let’s pick ’em up and play!

20%-50% Owned

Pickup of the Week – QB Ryan Fitzpatrick – New York Jets – Owned: 43%

Gets a Washington D that has been pretty stingy against the run.  This should force the Jets to chuck it around and Fitz should get some nice numbers this week.  He’s been feeding his stud WRs most of the season and it has paid off pretty nicely.  Washington does rush the QB really well but the Jets are coming off their bye and I’m hoping they are prepared for that.  Should be a multi-TD day for Fitz against a very weak defensive backfield.  (Projection: 290-3)

Honorable Mentions

WR Marvin Jones – Cincinnati Bengals – Owned: 42% – The Bills haven’t defended the pass well this season and, as long as the Red Rocket is hot, I’m taking my chances with Jones. (4-75-1)

WR Kamar Aiken – Baltimore Ravens – Owned: 38% – I’m starting to like this guy a little and believe he could be a big play receiver when the match up is right.  With the injuries in Baltimore right now, he’s worth the gamble. (5-85-1)

TE Dwayne Allen – Indianapolis Colts – Owned: 46% – We know he’s TD-dependent.  We also know the Colts will probably get blown out by the Patriots, which means a lot of throwing the ball.  (6-55-1)

Owned 20% or less

Pickup of the Week – San Francisco 49ers Defense – Owned: 17%

While the Niners have had their struggles, their D has played well at home this season.  In two games, including one against the mighty Packers, they’ve surrendered only 20 points.  Now they get a Ravens team that could be starting  third-stringers or worse at every skill position outside of QB.  They could fall apart at any time but this looks like as good a match up as any for this D.  (11 fantasy points)

Honorable Mentions

QB Brian Hoyer – Houston Texans – Owned: 16% – Gets the Jags who were lit up on the ground last week by the Bucs.  I’m assuming they do whatever they have to to stop the run and force Hoyer to throw.  And he should be fine throwing to one of the top 5 WRs (I’m saying it!) in the league.  (265-3)

RB Chris Thompson – Washington NFL Franchise – Owned: 13% – A PPR play here.  The Jets should stop the run and their corners should force throws to go underneath.  Should mean good things for a RB that has been great as a receiver this season. (75 total yards-1)

WR Marquess Wilson – Chicago Bears – Owned: 19% – Came through for me last week and I expect the same this week against a struggling Lions’ D.  And I don’t see any reason he shouldn’t be the #2 WR in Chicago even when Royal returns.  Really like this guy. (5-85-1)

San Francisco 49ers Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – @ NYG – L 27-30

QB: Kaepernick a decent game and looked a ton better in this game than he has.  Accuracy was decent but not great.  Ran okay.  Have to see this more to believe there is consistency there.

RB: Hyde looked awesome again and had big game.  Made plays when line gave him nothing.  Really stepped up in this game and showed his talent.

WR: Boldin a big game and is great when his QB trusts him to make plays.  Just incredible hands and still has better skills than people realize.  Smith an average game and just isn’t doing enough for fantasy.  Thought he’d get more but it just isn’t working out.

TE: Davis DNP.  Celek made TD grab but little else.  Nothing to trust.

OL: Wasn’t great.  RB did a lot for himself.  Isn’t great in protection.  Not the worst line but average might be their ceiling.

Def: Wasn’t great against the run but runs were limited.  Torched by the pass.  Couldn’t cover elite WR.  Killed by underneath stuff as well.  Gave up big games to receiving RB and #1 WR.  Good game to TE.

New York Giants Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – vs SF – W 30-27

QB: Manning a huge game and had an easy time against weak D.  Did make some great throws in this one along with a couple bad ones.  Is a stud when the match up calls for heavy passing.

RB: Jennings an okay game and got the most carries.  Still looks fine and should continue getting touches.  Vereen a big game doing a ton of damage receiving.  Made great plays when he had room to run after the catch and is as sure-handed as any RB.  Great PPR play if match up is right.

WR: Beckham a huge game and looked like a superstar again.  It’s just unfair when he plays against a bad D like this.  Randle an average game as ball was spread out a ton.  Not sure there is a match up where I would trust him.

TE: Donnell a good game making a fantastic TD grab.  Not a ton of yards but great PPR game.  Still a good match up play.

OL: Run blocking was shaky, at best.  Opened up some holes but failed around the goal line.  Pass protection was excellent.

Def: Was average overall.  Got hit with some medium distance plays but avoided any long killers.  Pass rush was okay.  Gave up good games to RB and #1 WR.

My Draft Kings NFL Week 6 Lineups

Always check back at 12:15 p.m. on Sunday for any last minute changes.

A quick apology is due.  For the first time ever, I called a player the safest play of the week and also said I was probably putting the hex on that player by doing so.  I’m sorry to all Jamaal Charles owners for that one.  My bad.

A lot of players I like are on the road this week so I’m a little apprehensive about that.  Just have to avoid the injury bug.  Bit me hard last week.  Let’s draft!

Safe Lineups (50/50s)

Pos Player Opp Salary
QB Andy Dalton Cin@Buf $5,700
RB Matt Forte Chi@Det $7,100
RB C. West KC@Min $4,000
WR A.J. Green Cin@Buf $7,600
WR Allen Hurns

P
Hou@Jax $5,000
WR Jarvis Landry Mia@Ten $6,200
TE Tyler Eifert Cin@Buf $4,900
FLEX Eddie Lacy SD@GB $6,300
DST Packers SD@GB $3,200

Despite being the “safe” category, definitely some scary plays here.  Dalton, Green, and Eifert are at a Buffalo team that hasn’t been stopping the pass all that well this season.  I liked Bennett better than Eifert until his injury status popped up.  Forte continues to be one of the best in the league and should do fine against a struggling Lions’ D.  Really liked what I saw in West last week and think he’ll be the play despite Davis’ talent.  Have to roll with him and his value in a PPR format.

Hurns continues to burn it up and might be in for another big game if Joseph is covering Robinson well.  I’m not going away from Landry in a PPR format unless he stops being great, regardless of the match up.  Lacy has been a disappointment but I still think he’ll bust out a big game at some point and the match up at home is a good one.  And the Packers‘ D has been so good this season that I’d take them at home against virtually anyone.

QB Tom Brady NE@Ind $8,100
RB Arian Foster

P
Hou@Jax $7,000
RB DeMarco Murray NYG@Phi $6,000
WR Kamar Aiken Bal@SF $4,300
WR Julian Edelman NE@Ind $7,600
WR Emmanuel Sanders Den@Cle $7,500
TE Richard Rodgers SD@GB $3,100
FLEX Shane Vereen NYG@Phi $4,200
DST 49ers Bal@SF $2,100

Brady continues to dominate and the combo with Edelman looks like an awesome play every week right now.  Foster gets a Jaguars D that Doug Martin just trounced.  Murray and the Eagles may have finally turned a corner and could be on their way to being the fantasy stars many expected.  Aiken looks like he could hit a home run every game and this week looks like a great chance for that.  I have to believe Flacco will take a few shots deep to him against the Niners as they should stuff the banged-up Ravens’ run game.

Sanders might continue his great play with Haden likely covering Thomas, opening up things for Denver’s #2 even more than usual.  Rodgers is TD-dependent but this looks like a week he could get one as the Chargers’ D against WRs has been solid.  He should get a few red zone looks in this one.  Vereen looked fantastic last week and no reason to believe the Giants stop going to him in the passing game.  This becomes a great value play if Beckham can’t go Monday night.  And the 49ers have been strong at home this season, only giving up a total of 20 points in two games including one against the Packers.  Now they get a Ravens team that has a ton of injuries to their starting skill players.  I’ll take that cheap gamble as they are the lowest priced D on Draft Kings this week.

Swing for the Fences Lineup

Pos Player Opp Salary
QB Tom Brady NE@Ind $8,100
RB Duke Johnson Jr. Den@Cle $4,500
RB Dion Lewis

Q
NE@Ind $5,800
WR Julian Edelman NE@Ind $7,600
WR Allen Hurns

Hou@Jax $5,000
WR Brandon Marshall Was@NYJ $7,100
TE Jordan Cameron Mia@Ten $3,000
FLEX DeMarco Murray NYG@Phi $6,000
DST Vikings KC@Min $2,900

Johnson looks risky against a studly Broncos’ D but he’s been so good in the passing game that he’s a play in PPR.  Whether the Browns continue their recent aerial success or the Broncos’ offense comes alive and blows them out, Duke should get his production either way.  Lewis has been too good in PPR as well.  No reason to go away from him yet.  Marshall has looked as good as he has ever been and gets a bad Washington defensive backfield after his bye week.  I’ll take that match up.  Cameron is a gut feeling in all honesty.  I just think, with the changes in Miami, they might get conservative and build confidence this week with a ton of short stuff.  Cameron might get some more volume this week than people expect.  And the Vikings‘ D has also played well at home and they get the now Charles-less Chiefs offense.  KC still has plenty of weapons I like but Minnesota might hold the score down on them this week.
