Atlanta Falcons

2015

Week 1 – vs Philly – W 26-24

QB: Ryan solid and was protected surprisingly well.  Looked vintage and accuracy was good.

RB: Coleman got ground work while Freeman got passing plays.  Look like essentially the same player out there, especially size-wise.  Not seeing a lot of difference yet.

WR: Jones a monster game and looked unstoppable in this one.  White a nice game as well.  Should be studs as long as line protects QB.

TE: Not worth owning at the moment.  Ignore.

OL: Looked vastly improved from last season.  Run blocking was decent and pass protection was strong.  Could mean good things for this team and the fantasy players.

Def: Decent against the run but torched through the air.  Pass rush isn’t great.  Will probably get dominated in the trenches like last season in a lot of games.  Gave up good games to RBs (receiving) and #1 WR.  Held rest in check.

Week 2 – @ NYG – W 24-20

QB: Ryan was under pressure at times but still a good game.  O line troubles will be the only thing that stops him from being top 10 and potential top 5 QB.

RB: Coleman the better rushing game but Freeman the better receiving game.  Both had TDs.  They still look like almost identical players.  Wouldn’t gamble too big on either right now.

WR: Jones a huge game and looks phenomenal.  Can’t be stopped at the moment.  White disappeared with no explanation.  Hankerson a good game but I wouldn’t trust it yet.  Also had a terrible drop.

TE: Tamme a nice game and could be a sneaky play with the right match up.  Still not near a top option in this passing game so he’ll still do nothing probably more often than not.

OL: Had some trouble with blitzes on passing plays but managed okay.  Didn’t do much for running game.

Def: A little better against the run than numbers indicate but still not great.  Torched by Manning to Beckham and Vereen.  Pass rush wasn’t great.  Also gave up good game to TE.  Held rushers in check.

Week 3 – @ Dallas – W 39-28

QB: Ryan a good game doing the only thing that matters: feeding Jones like crazy.  Looks great and no reason it won’t continue.

RB: Coleman DNP.  Freeman a monster game and was the only RB to get carries.  As I stated in preseason, he’s the better back and should be the starter anyway.  Just a matter of whether he can hold up.

WR: Jones a monster game again.  Making incredible plays and catches even on badly thrown balls.  Unstoppable at the moment.  Hankerson an okay game and looking like the better option than White, who got zero.

TE: Continue ignoring.  Just not seeing the production from anyone yet.

OL: Looked good in this one.  Opened up plenty for run game and, probably more important, protected QB extremely well.  Night and day difference from last season.

Def: Wasn’t great although numbers weren’t terrible.  Wasn’t stopping the run early but got better later.  Did excellent job on WRs.  Pass rush wasn’t great but not all bad.  Gave up monster to RB and good game to receiving RB.  Decent game to TE.

Week 4 – vs Houston – W 48-21

QB: Game was never close.  Run game dominated.  Ryan was okay.  Only thing that hurt him was how quickly they got a big lead.

RB: Freeman another monster game doing plenty of receiving damage along with the rushing.  No reason this should be a committee when Coleman gets healthy.  Ward a good game in garbage time but not overly impressive.  A few more pounds and he would be Mike Tolbert.

WR: Hankerson a big game and is the no-doubt #2 on this team.  White appears to be done.  Hankerson is making great plays and no reason not to trust him now.  Jones held to little but only because of game flow.  Nothing to worry about.

TE: Nada.  Move on.

OL: Pretty strong game against a tough D line.  Was great for running game and protected reasonably well.  Continues to play better than last season.

Def: Gave up a lot because of prevent and reserves playing early.  Was pretty stout against the run.  Solid against the pass and was covering elite #1 WR well until Trufant wasn’t playing.  Gave up good games to WRs.

Week 5 – vs Washington – W 25-19

QB: Ryan had uncharacteristically bad game.  Just wasn’t on target at all and missed open receivers with bad throws.  Should be fine but this one was really ugly.

RB: Freeman another monster game and just looks great.  Running so well and showing great vision when he has the ball.  Also doing an amazing job catching the ball.  He’s a must-start until things change but I don’t see that happening.

WR: Jones a good game because of FRTD.  Suffered from bad throws.  He’ll get back on track soon enough.  Hankerson injured but stayed in.  Did little but QB missed him on long TD where he easily beat D.  Was targeted 2 more times in end zone but bad throws on both as well.  Should be fine.

TE: Tamme a big game and is in the conversation now as a play.  Probably benefited from QB inaccuracy to WRs so have to temper it a bit.  Still worth noting.

OL: Excellent run blocking against a tough run D.  A+ game for them in that area.  Wasn’t great against pass rush.  Wasn’t terrible but a little sloppy.

Def: Stout against a decent run game.  Gave up nearly nothing on the ground.  Pass rush was negated.  Coverage was good on #1 WR but not elsewhere.  Gave up good games to #2 WR and backup TE.

Week 6 – @ NO – L 21-31

QB: Ryan a rough game despite good numbers.  Accuracy wasn’t great and got hit and sacked a ton.  Receivers weren’t doing him any favors either.

RB: Freeman another monster game and they keep feeding him a ton.  Looks awesome and no reason it won’t continue.  Showing phenomenal vision right now and allowing his blockers to set him up nicely.

WR: Jones a good game and looks great when healthy but might not be totally there right now.  White got a TD but little else.  Hankerson below-average and looked shaky.  Have to hope consistency is better than this.

TE: Tamme did little and was just overshadowed by the rest.  If White gets more looks, he’ll suffer.

OL: Run blocking continues to be great but pass protection was rough in this one.  Has to learn to handle pressure better.

Def: Run D continues to be strong and might have to go away from playing against them.  Coverage on WRs also solid here.  Still gave up a lot through the air.  Got torched for huge game by aged TE.  Gave up big game to RB due to short TDs.

Week 7 – @ Tennessee – W 10-7

QB: Did not play well on top of receivers doing him no favors.  Bad game against emerging D that wasn’t all his fault.  Wouldn’t be overly worries but this team is still erratic on the road.  Should always be a little cautious.

RB: Freeman awesome again and looks great.  Is patient and exploding through holes.  No reason to stop riding him.  Team should keep feeding him like they are.

WR: Jones a big game but took a ton of targets to do it.  Definitely not 100% right now and it’s obvious.  Would be cautious with him until he starts making plays again.

TE: Tamme did little and will continue to be nothing more than a gamble.

OL: Continues to play well but not dominating anyone.  Doing just enough to get by and will probably have ugly games on the road against elite defensive fronts.

Def: Helped by bad O.  Wasn’t great against struggling run game.  Coverage was decent but nothing special.  Pass rush did little as well.  Gave up good PPR games to RB, #1 WR, and TE.

2014

Week 1 – vs NO – W 37-34

QB: Ryan a stud again with WRs healthy.  A top 5 QB as long as that health continues.

RB: Jackson looked solid.  Runs with power and still has sneaky quickness to make moves.  Probably will have stronger numbers when the game isn’t a shootout.

WR: Jones, White, Douglas, and Hester all looked good.  As long as three of these guys are healthy, this will be an explosive offense.  No team can cover this group.

TE: Toilolo a decent game getting a TD.  Will be hard to trust with so many other options on this team but certainly worth keeping an eye on.  Will continue to get red zone looks because of size.

OL: Really good job against a strong D.  Doesn’t seem to be as many questions about this group as was thought.  Have to see them on the road now.

Def: Shredded by an elite O.  Did make a few big plays but gave up far more.  Couldn’t seem to cover at all.

Week 2 – @ Cincy – L 10-24

QB: Ryan threw a lot of balls away because of coverage.  Rush flushed him a little but just had no where to throw.  Kind of surprising with receiving corps.

RB: Jackson still looks great but big deficit kept him from getting more carries.  Is going to have a big game once they get out ahead of a team.  Rodgers looks okay but doesn’t have Jackson’s vision.

WR: Jones had a big game.  White and Douglas were average.  Seemed to have trouble getting open for Ryan to throw.

TE: Toilolo going to be mostly a red zone guy that will be good with a TD or do little.  Can’t count on him for 6+ catches a game right now.

OL: Blocking was pretty good.  Run blocking was solid against a tough D.  Did good job pass blocking.  Gave Ryan a ton of time and the chance to scramble.

Def: Pretty awful.  Ball was run down their throats with the big lead.  Gave up a few big pass plays despite Green, Eifert, and Jones not playing/catching a pass.  Looks weak overall.

Week 3 – vs TB – W 56-14

QB: Ryan has been stud at home and dud on the road so far.  As many TDs as incomplete passes.  Wasn’t rushed and picked the D apart.

RB: Jackson looked great especially on short TD run.  Still think he’ll be good in closer games.  Was pulled with the rest of the starters.  Rodgers and Freeman looked awful on their carries.  Smith hit a home run but did lose a fumble.

WR: Jones had a monster game.  Coverage on him was terrible.  White DNP.  Douglas got a TD before injury.  Weems was next best WR.  Good game but didn’t look like a game-breaker.

TE: Toilolo did little but kind of expected in a game like this.  He wasn’t needed and won’t be looked at much when D can’t cover WRs.

OL: Looked good against weak D.  Run blocking was not spectacular but good enough early.  Never let pass rush do much.

Def: Made a lot of big plays against struggling offense.  Still looks like a below average unit, just a little better at home.

Week 4 – @ Minnesota – L 28-41

QB: Ryan looked better on the road against weaker D.  Big game and second pick came on final play of the game.  Did have some drops by receivers that cost him.

RB: Jackson continues to look good.  Running hard, with patience, vision, and surprising speed.  Just needs a game that stays close and they have the lead.  Smith busted a long one.  Great speed shown again.

WR: Jones, White, and Hester all good games.  White did have a few drops that looked bad.  All usable when a shootout is expected.

TE: Toilolo only one grab.  You pretty much play him in fantasy only if you expect the TD.

OL: Run blocking looked pretty good.  Did get QB hit a few times but pass blocking wasn’t too bad.

Def: Obliterated on the road as expected.  200+ yards on the ground and 300+ through the air.  Gave up 4 TDs on the ground.  Until they prove the can stop someone, start everyone against them on the road.

Week 5 – @ NYG – L 20-30

QB: Ryan was better on the road this time but still not as good as a home game.  Did have some drops that should almost never happen with this receiving corps.

RB: Jackson looked strong against tough front.  Had good game with receiving added.  Smith busted a long TD catch and run.  Freeman had decent game receiving as well.  Between the 3 RBs – 13 catches, 164 yards, and 1 TD.

WR: Jones had big game while White was quiet.  Hester also didn’t get as many touches.  Didn’t matter who was covering Jones, he was making plays.

TE: Nothing for TEs.  Toilolo continues to be TD dependent and not usable.

OL: Didn’t look good at anything here.  Definitely can’t handle good front on the road right now.

Def: Didn’t look as bad as expected.  Didn’t give up a lot of yards but gave up decent games to RBs and some WRs but held Cruz (3 catches) and Donnell (zero) in check.  Donnell was barely targeted.

Week 6 – vs Chicago – L 13-27

QB: Ryan killed by receivers dropping passes.  Was on target and making good throws and they got dropped a ton.  Would not expect it to be this bad again.

RB: Team chose not to run and not sure why.  Jackson continues to look fine when given the chance.  Smith busted another long TD on a screen.  Still doubt he would ever get the starting job unless injury got him there.

WR: So many drops.  Jones a decent game and still the best by far.  White did little because of drops and took some shots.

TE: Toilolo a few catches but had 3 terrible drops.  Assuming this is the reason he wasn’t highly valued in fantasy going into the season.

OL: Decent run blocking on the few runs but awful against the pass rush.  Got Ryan hit and sacked quite a bit.  Pretty awful showing.

Def: All kinds of bad.  Got run on and thrown on at will.  Gave up monster to RB and 2 100+ yard WRs.  Just a terrible unit.

Week 7 – @ Baltimore – L 7-29

QB: Ryan got no blocking and was forced to make mostly short and quick throws.  Looks good but had to get some better protection.

RB: Jackson did little along with other RBs.  Hard to trust with such a bad line, especially on the road.

WR: White a huge game making some good catches and shaking the drops from recent weeks.  Jones okay but the D clearly focused a little more on him instead of White.

TE: Toilolo better but still TD-dependent.  Wouldn’t risk.

OL: Awful.  Did little on run plays and almost zero pass blocking.  Got QB killed this game.

Def: Couldn’t stop much and burned by some big plays.  Gave up big games to RBs, WRs, and TE.  Just a bad unit, particularly on the road.

Week 8 – vs Detroit (London) – L 21-22

QB: Ryan was solid as blocking was greatly improved and was able to step into throws.  Did have a couple bad plays and an atrocious interception.  Offense is adjusting to strengths but faded in this one.

RB: Jackson a fairly good game with TD but no receptions.  All catches were made by backups.  Running really hard and well when he gets room, however.

WR: White and Jones solid games but no TDs.   Numbers hurt by O running and trying to kill clock with early lead.  Failed and might force more throws even when they lead now.

TE: Continue ignoring.  Toilolo made a couple grabs but just isn’t targeted enough.

OL: Much improved in this one, particularly against a tough D-line.  Faded as the game wore on but both run and pass blocking looked a ton better.  Some quick-strike plays helped a ton as well.

Def: Stout against the run in this one.  Held RBs to virtually nothing on the ground.  Gave up huge games to QB, #1 WR, and receiving RB.  Still no pass rush.

Week 9 – Bye

Week 10 – @ TB – W 27-17

QB: Ryan an okay game but should have been better considering opponent.  A lot of dropped passes.

RB: Jackson a big game and continues to look like he could carry the load if the blocking was there.  A nice option with this kind of match up.

WR: Jones and White both had big games despite some drops.  Did the bulk of the work in the passing game, as it should be.

TE: Toilolo did nothing but got an end zone target that wasn’t close enough to catch.  Ignore.

OL: An decent game all-around.  Could have run more but team wants to throw.  Pass blocking was pretty strong against good D-line.

Def: Pretty solid against the run but hurt on stat sheet by some QB scrambles.  Gave up a lot through the air.  Big games by QB, WRs, and TE.

Week 11 – @ Carolina – W 19-17

QB: Ryan had average game as blocking was shaky again.  Just wasn’t able to convert on any big plays.  Looks good when he gets time but isn’t happening often.

RB: Jackson was disappointing in this one.  Freeman actually looked a little better and might steal some more carries in the coming weeks.  Worth keeping an eye on.

WR: White a big game getting the only TD.  Jones was decent.  Both are fine if QB has time to find them down field instead of on short throws only.

TE: Toilolo a couple catches and made one very impressive one.  Still not usable but hopefully is progressing.

OL: Still pretty bad.  Not a great game against a struggling D.  Still look better than earlier in season but will get dominated by elite D-lines.

Def: Some bad QB play and bad blocking helped.  Didn’t really stop the run and got thrown on for plenty.  Gave up good games to scrambling QB, #1 WR, and TE.

Week 12 – vs Cleveland – L 24-26

QB: Ryan with a few bad throws but a good game overall.  Was protected well at home again and hopefully that continues.

RB: Jackson a good game but not a ton of yards.  Rodgers looked a little better than Freeman this game.  Looks like the team will stick with Jackson as the workhorse.

WR: White and Jones good games and Hester decent.  Same story: can trust them at home but less confidence in them on the road.

TE: Toilolo did little.  Still TD-dependent and that’s clearly not changing at this point.

OL: Looked good in pass protection but did little for running game against improving D.  Makes the RBs so much more unstable for fantasy.

Def: Helped by bad QB throws for picks but gave up a ton of yards and should have given up more points.  Got run on and thrown on with ease.  Gave up monster to RB and good games to 3 WRs.  Held backup TE to little.

Week 13 – vs Arizona – W 29-18

QB: Ryan a good fantasy game but had some really bad throws and should have thrown more picks.  Still looked pretty good most of the time.

RB: Jackson a good game against a tough D and still looks great when the blocking is there.  Running really hard.

WR: White DNP.  Jones a monster game against a tough CB.  Looked incredible.  Douglas was great and is always a solid play when an injury happens.

TE: Toilolo got a short TD but little else.  Same story all season.

OL: Strong game against tough D.  Run blocking was surprisingly good in this one.  Still a little tough to trust for now.

Def: Halped by shaky QB play.  Lead limited runs.  Gave up decent games to WRs.  Held everything else in check.

Week 14 – @ GB – L 37-43

QB: Ryan a huge game despite a slow start.  Got time and picked apart a weak secondary, as he should.

RB: Jackson still looks good and runs as hard as anyone in the league.  Just needs a better line in front of him.

WR: Jones a monster game and just dominated in this one.  Coverage just didn’t matter.  White a good game getting a TD but not much else.  Douglas also a nice TD grab.

TE: 1 catch for Toilolo.  Doesn’t seem to be developing at all right now.

OL: Really strong game all-around.  Better pass protecting in this one but wasn’t terrible run blocking.

Def: Obliterated.  Did nothing well.  Gave up huge games to QB, RBs, and #1 WR.  Just destroyed by an elite O.

Week 15 – vs Pittsburgh – L 20-27

QB: Ryan another big game as line allowed him time to throw.  He’ll have them as long as he is protected.

RB: Jackson a decent game but is TD-dependent and not getting enough touches.  Looks like he could still be a stud in a different offense and behind a better line.

WR: Jones DNP.  Douglas another big game and is probably in the running for best WR handcuff.  White a big game as well despite some drops.  Really looks like he’s lost a step at this point.  Hester a big game but still the hardest to trust.

TE: Toilolo still doing nothing.  Wouldn’t be shocked if they get someone else next season.

OL: Playing a lot better but came against weaker D.  Really protecting the QB well right now.

Def: Great run D considering the opponent.  Got thrown on for a ton and wasn’t covering well.  No pass rush.  Gave up big games to RB, and #1 WR.  Decent games to the rest.

Week 16 – @ NO – W 30-14

QB: Ryan a decent game against a bad D.  Should have been better for fantasy purposes.

RB: Jackson injured.  Freeman broke one long TD but got little else on the ground.  Had good receiving game.  Line still can’t block so doesn’t really matter who is running.

WR: Jones a big game and was beating coverage at will.  White okay but just doesn’t look like the same player as he was anymore.  Will surprise occasionally but consistency is gone.

TE: Toilolo an improved game but still not doing enough for consideration.  Have to hope for a vast off-season improvement, especially in his hands.

OL: Still terrible.  Did nothing for run game but was decent against a bad pass rush.  Needs huge improvement.

Def: Good pass rush against terrible line.  Nice job stopping the run but lead limited carries.  Gave up good games to TE and RB.  Decent games to WRs.

Week 17 – vs Carolina – L 3-34

QB: Ryan got zero blocking and was hit a ton.  Never had time to throw and it led to mistakes.  Should have been pulled for his own safety.

RB: Jackson DNP.  Rodgers looked good and had decent game.  D was tough and line wasn’t blocking so numbers were more impressive than they seemed.  Freeman did nothing.

WR: White a good game numbers-wise but didn’t play as great as it seemed.  Some drops and a fumble made it ugly.  Jones average and just couldn’t get open often enough.

TE: Still little for Toilolo.  Should be ignored next season until he shows something.

OL: Atrocious.  Some run blocking was okay against tough D but pass protection barely existed.  Needs wholesale changes in off-season.

Def: Trampled.  Got run on for a ton.  Pass D would have been torched if not for some drops.  Gave up good game to scrambling QB.  No other good games as production was spread out.
