Kansas City Chiefs

2015

 Week 1 – @ Houston – W 27-20

QB: Smith solid and clearly has better weapons to throw to this season.  Could sneak into the top 10 with a little luck.  Solid play.

RB: Charles held in check on the ground but receiving gave him good game.  Looks strong as usual with decent blocking.  Davis still looks like most talented backup in the league right now.

WR: Maclin a strong debut although numbers weren’t great.  Only a matter of time before he gets in the end zone and he’ll be there plenty.  Wilson looked solid on his few catches.  Worth keeping an eye on.

TE: Kelce a monster game and looked phenomenal.  Belongs in the top 5 at TE and might play his way to #2 this season.

OL: Looked okay against elite line.  Had some trouble, as expected, but should be strong against weaker units.  Pass blocking a little better in this one.

Def: Helped by bad QB play.  Pass rush was great.  Got run on somewhat easily by backups.  Might be a problem.  Gave up a ton to WRs including a monster to #1.

Week 2 – vs Denver – L 31-24

QB: Smith a terrible game because of constant pressure.  Doesn’t panic but rush was so heavy there was nothing he could do about it.

RB: Charles a huge game and is just so good running the ball.  Picks his spots with excellent vision and just keeps falling forward.  Really starting to show a lot of savvy as he gets older.

WR: Maclin an okay game against a brutal match up.  Looks good but still have to keep expectations in check with him.  Still not seeing a clear #2 on this team.

TE: Kelce decent but match up was tough.  Too good a player to doubt because of games like this.

OL: Strong run blocking, especially early.  Could not handle pass rush at all.  Blitzing was just too much for them.

Def: Great game against the run but torched through the air.  Couldn’t stop receivers at all and was over matched by talent in this one.  Gave up huge games to both WRs.  Held rest in check.

Week 3 – @ GB – L 28-38

QB: Smith rushed, hit, and sacked a ton.  Put up some numbers but a chunk of it came against prevent.  Game was never in doubt.

RB: Charles a monster game despite only 16 touches.  Should be getting the ball more, even in a blowout.  Continues to look great behind good line.

WR: Maclin a huge game and broke the TD streak.  Starting to look stronger than expected but numbers will rarely be anywhere near this.  Still not really a #2 on this team.

TE: Kelce a nice game and is getting harder for Ds to stop.  The chemistry with Smith is building and he should get his numbers most weeks.

OL: A nice job run blocking but the pass protection was horrendous.  Deficit forced them to throw and they got a bit exposed by the situation.

Def: Run D was decent but was obliterated through the air.  Just not good enough to stop an elite passing offense and have to question whether they can stop a good one.  Gave up monster games to WRs.

Week 4 – @ Cincy – L 21-36

QB: Smith rushed and hit a ton.  Did throw for a ton of yards and ran well but zero scores.  Played pretty well but has to avoid the sacks when it matters most.

RB: Charles a big game with rushing and receiving combined.  Continues to be as good as ever and no reason to think it changes.  Start, start, start.

WR: Maclin another big game and just kept getting open at will.  Really looks fantastic right now and is playing maybe above what he’ll be rest of season.  Might sell high on him.  Still doesn’t appear to be a #2 worth mentioning on this team.

TE: Kelce held to average numbers but still looks good.  Will be fine in better match ups.

OL: Run blocking was really great and baffling as to why they didn’t run more this game.  Pass protection just couldn’t handle opposing line.  Ugly game in that area.

Def: Wasn’t good anywhere.  Couldn’t really stop the run and gave up 4 TDs on the ground.  Wasn’t good in coverage and the numbers could have been worse if a drop hadn’t saved them.  Gave up monster game to RBs and decent games everywhere else.

Week 5 – vs Chicago – L 17-18

QB: Smith a bad game as pass rush was in his face from start to finish.  Wasn’t accurate but wasn’t really making bad decisions.  Needed better protection.

RB: Charles injured and out a while, possibly year.  West got the most work after the injury and looks very good.  Quick and really fast.  Have to see a little more to see if patience and vision is there.  Looked like big questions.

WR: Maclin a good PPR game and played fairly well.  Some drops in this one but shouldn’t be a issue.  Still nothing on this team that looks like a true #2.

TE: Kelce held in check.  Tough match up and QB play didn’t help.  Will be better and should continue to be one of the top TEs.

OL: Wasn’t handling pass rush at all.  Really bad game in that area.  Was fine in run blocking.  It’s definitely the strength of this unit but they still need improvement.

Def: Pass rush wasn’t as good as expected.  Run D was okay but not as good as they have been playing.  More an elite RB than their bad play, however.  Still bad in coverage.  Gave up good games to RB and #1 WR.  Only held TE in check through luck.

Week 6 – @ Minnesota – L 10-16

QB: Smith another so-so game.  Struggled a little with no running game behind him.  Going to need his receivers to step up if he’s going to matter at all in fantasy now.

RB: West got the most carries but didn’t do a ton.  Doesn’t look too bad but might not have the patience right now to be very good.  Need to see more of him but lowering expectations now.

WR: Maclin an average game and didn’t get many looks.  Wilson a good game with a TD catch and should be the #2 WR on this team.  Not good enough to beat good coverage.  Very match up dependent.

TE: Kelce a nice game and could benefit with Charles gone.  Might get a few more targets per game.  With his ability, that would mean good production virtually every week.

OL: Rough game run blocking as they couldn’t get RBs big enough holes to break much.  Pass protection was okay but opponent was far from elite.

Def: Run D strong again and came against elite RB.  Looked great, especially up front.  Pass rush was decent but coverage had its holes with secondary options.  Gave up good game to #2 WR.  Nothing else.

Week 7 – vs Pittsburgh – W 23-13

QB: Smith a usual game for him.  Not great, not terrible.  Nothing new to see here.

RB: West a huge game and looked great behind good blocking.  Runs really well and allows blockers to do work.  Showed great vision and kept falling forward.

WR: Maclin DNP.  Conley a big game and looked okay but nothing stellar.  Wilson a decent game and shows flashes if he is used correctly.  Could be a lesser version of Landry if they wanted to involve him like that.

TE: Kelce a nice game and continues to be great when they give him targets.  Makes great plays even when the throw isn’t great.

OL: Excellent game, especially on the ground.  Was opening big holes for runners.  Held their blocks well.  Protection was just as good.

Def: Torched by stars.  Helped by third stringer at QB.  Wasn’t stopping elite runner.  Couldn’t cover elite WRs as usual.  Gave up good games to all but TE.  All WRs should be started against.

2014

Week 1 – vs Tennessee – L 10-26

QB: Alex Smith was shaky at best.  WRs didn’t help.  Forced to scramble because of line not handling rush at all.  Could be a repeat of Eli Manning 2013 because of no blocking.

RB: Jamaal Charles barely used.  Deficit hurt but an inexplicably low number of touches.  Not a ton of blocking when he did run.

WR: Donnie Avery okay but some of his production came in garbage time.  Zero other options at WR right now.  No one could get open/separation early.

TE: Anthony Fasano okay but definitely not the athletic TE-type.  More of a good option right now because of lack of talent at WR.  Kelce looked a little better but not much to go on yet.

OL: Looked absolutely lost on some plays, especially early.  Running around not blocking anyone.  Couldn’t handle pressure at all and made an average D-line look good as the game wore on.

Def: Looked middle-of-the-road.  Didn’t give up big runs and tackled well.  Coverage was fairly good but no big plays made.  Looked disciplined but might be no play-makers.

Week 2 – @ Denver – L 17-24

QB: Smith was okay but receivers weren’t helping much.  Needs some play-makers on the outside.

RB: Charles hurt early.  Davis had a huge game filling in.  Looks very good but sometimes impatient.  Caught plenty of passes.  Should be integrated into offense just to give the team more talent even when Charles returns.

WR: Bowe returned and was average.  Should have made more plays.  Might be better now that he is back to playing.  WRs on this team just don’t matter much for fantasy right now.

TE: Kelce led all receivers on the team in yards.  It’s obvious why there was so much buzz around Kelce in fantasy drafts.  Fasano also had an okay game.

OL: Kept Smith up and allowed him to run a little.  Run blocking was above average for the most part.  Certainly not dominating.

Def: Run defense wasn’t bad despite a couple decent runs surrendered.  Front looked good.  Pass coverage was not good enough.  Gave up big games to both WRs and a TE.

Week 3 – @ Miami – W 34-15

QB: Smith had a nice game dealing with a good pass rush.  Not really any big throws down field but didn’t need them.

RB: Davis had a huge game.  Continues to look great and still believe he will have a big role when Charles returns.  Just so much better than other options on the field.  Gray got a late TD.  Have to see more.

WR: McKnight had a huge game but is on IR.  Bowe and rest of WRs are not the best pass-catching options on the field.

TE: Kelce got a TD and had a good game because of it.  Fasano only caught 2 balls and looks like he has given way to the more talented Kelce.

OL: Had some trouble with the pass rush of the front four.  Did a good job run blocking most of the time.

Def: Run D was gashed by Miller.  Pass D was pretty good despite giving up good games to both WRs.  Front line looks very good.

Week 4 – vs NE – W 41-14

QB: Smith was strong again.  Most throws are easy and short and he lets his receivers do a lot of work.  Did a good job of hitting them with space.

RB: Charles returned and had a monster game.  Davis remained a big part of the offense and had a good game as well.  This should continue.

WR: Bowe had a good game.  Still wouldn’t trust any WR on this team right now.  Have to see Bowe keep this up.

TE: Kelce had a huge game and looked great.  Definitely left Fasano behind at this point and might be best receiving option at all positions on this team now.  Andy Reid always loved the TE.

OL: Looks really good right now.  Run blocking was dominant in this one and pass blocking was solid.  Looked like a different unit from Week 1.

Def: Wasn’t really stopping O as much as getting TOs and winning TOP.  Was getting run on a bit but big lead negated that.  Was beating weak O-line a lot.

Week 5 – @ SF – L 17-22

QB: Smith was okay considering a road game and opponent.  It seems, if you take away his TEs and RBs, you can shut him down a bit because his WRs can’t get open.

RB: Charles decent against tough D but only one reception.  Davis only 2 touches.  De’Anthony Thomas made his debut and impressed.  Has incredible speed but too small to be every-down back.

WR: Hemingway led the team in catches and receiving yards but not trust-able.  Bowe was average/his usual.  Continue to ignore.

TE: Kelce got a TD but Fasano got more catches and yards.  Would still trust Kelce as the talent is undeniable at this point.

OL: Pretty good considering opponent.  Decent run blocking and kept Smith upright.  Continues to get better.

Def: D-line played well and got after QB but team couldn’t stop the run.  Can be run on if you do it mostly between the tackles.  Didn’t give up any big games in the passing game but it was more because of the number of runs.

Week 6 – Bye

Week 7 – @ SD – W 23-20

QB: Smith solid but numbers not great for fantasy.  Ran well.  Did take a few hits/sacks as pass blocking was a little shaky.

RB: Charles a big game and looked great behind some good blocking.  Davis did little despite 11 touches.

WR: Bowe a good game while no other WR did much.  A good sign but still not trusting Bowe.

TE: Kelce not great.  Made his catches but not enough looks.  Would hope his talent would steal him more throws from the lesser talent on this team.  Didn’t happen this game.

OL: Average pass blocking this game, getting QB hit and rushed a bit.  Good run blocking against weak run D.  Helped dominate TOP.

Def: TOP helped them not have to do much.  Wasn’t really stopping O.  Run D was average.  Pass D helped by shaky QB performance.  Gave up good games to TE, #1 WR, and would have been RB if TOP hadn’t stopped it.  Nothing to be scared of based off this game.

Week 8 – vs StL – W 34-7

QB: Smith accurate but no TDs equals bad fantasy game.  Ran well and line looked great but big lead meant they weren’t throwing much late.

RB: Charles a monster game and looked great.  Line wasn’t run blocking good early but got better as game wore on.  Davis a big game with a rushing and KR TD.  Continues to look like one of the best reserves in the league.

WR: Bowe a solid PPR game.  Still hard to trust and no other receiver can even be considered on this team for fantasy right now.

TE: Kelce solid but wasn’t able to get much space to make a big play.  Becoming very reliable, however.

OL: Started a little shaky but started to dominate as game wore on and TOP grew.  Good outing against a pretty good D.

Def: Pass rush was awesome.  Was in the backfield all game.  Run D was average, at best, but lead hid it.  No one had good fantasy game against.

Week 9 – vs NYJ – W 24-10

QB: Smith okay but numbers weren’t as big as expected considering opponent.  1 of 2 TDs was complete fluke.  Would have been bad game otherwise.

RB: Charles another big game.  Line is really giving him just enough room to keep producing.

WR: Bowe a pretty good game but still doesn’t seem capable of huge games.  Just not showing anything to suggest he can break out.  No other WR did much.

TE: Kelce and Fasano got a TD but Fasano’s was a fluke.  Kelce is proving to be a must-start.

OL: Another good game all-around.  Not an elite line but gets the job done most of the time.  Can certainly be trusted at home.

Def: Weak O did little.  Were a few plays where the run D was bad.  Also got torched by WRs.  Held TE to zero.  Gave up good total running game.

Week 10 – @ Buffalo – W 17-13

QB: Smith pressured and hit a ton as O-line could not handle D-line.  Rushing TD saved him from disaster.

RB: Charles broke a couple long runs on misdirection but was held in check otherwise.  Line struggled to block anything most of the game.

WR: Bowe a good game and looked solid but no reason to start trusting.  No other WR mattered or seems to matter for fantasy, probably for rest of season.

TE: Kelce did little.  Rarely got a throw and seems to have been covered well.

OL: Awful for the most part.  Was not stopping front seven on runs and was getting obliterated on passing plays.  Couldn’t handle D-line.

Def: Good pass rush disrupted a lot of throws.  Was not really stopping the run but team chose not to run as much as they could have.  Gave up good games to total RBs and #3 WR and decent game to #2 WR.  Watkins played hurt.

Week 11 – vs Seattle – W 24-20

QB: Smith did little as running game did most of the work.  Lost TOP badly despite win.

RB: Charles had monster game and got some excellent blocking.  Did all the work for the team.

WR: Bowe did little along with the rest of the WRs.  Not usable still.  Thomas is getting more touches but still not enough to be relevant.  Looks like Tavon Austin right now.

TE: Kelce did little as team didn’t throw.  The best receiver on the team but still hard to trust.

OL: Dominated for the running game.  Solid pass blocking as well on limited throws.

Def: Couldn’t contain running QB or RB.  Good pass rush but wasn’t actually getting to QB.  Gave up big games to QB, RB, and #1 WR.  Decent games to #2 WR and TEs.

Week 12 – @ Oakland – L 20-24

QB: Smith was pressured well all game and had to throw away more than normal.  Decent fantasy game and what you come to expect from him.

RB: Charles another huge game.  Getting good blocking and making big plays.  Maybe one of the most consistent starts in fantasy for now.

WR: Bowe average.  No one else mattered.  Continue ignoring.

TE: Kelce a good game but Fasano got a TD on a blown coverage.  Kelce still looks like a stud but just not getting enough throws for fantasy purposes.

OL: Good run blocking but had trouble in pass protection, especially up the middle.  Let far too many guys through to QB.

Def: Played pretty well but burned by a few big plays.  Definitely should not have given up this many points to this team.  Gave up big games to backup RB and #1 WR and decent game to #2 WR.  Held everything else to little.

Week 13 – vs Denver – L 16-29

QB: Smith average as pass rush was killing him, especially late.  This team can’t really play from behind.

RB: Charles a good game because of receiving TD but did little outside of that.  Ran well but not enough opportunities.

WR: Just awful.  Windy conditions hurt some but still no fantasy relevance, even this deep in the season.  Bowe should probably never be on a fantasy roster again.

TE: Kelce had some good plays but still not being targeted enough.  Should get 6-9 catches every game considering his obvious talent.

OL: Awful.  Couldn’t do much for run game and was dominated by pass rush.  Looked terrible, especially late.

Def: Trampled.  Couldn’t stop the run at all.  Was dominated in the trenches.  Didn’t cover well either.  Gave up monster to RB, good games to WRs.  Held backup TEs in check.

Week 14 – @ Arizona – L 14-17

QB: Smith rushed and hit a bunch but stayed poised and played pretty well.  Ran really well.

RB: Charles another monster game and continues to get it done.  Got a little banged up in this one but played through it.  Just amazing, especially considering the match up.

WR: Bowe did little.  WRs on this team just can’t be trusted.

TE: Kelce a good game and looked great.  Definitely a must-start in match ups like this one.

OL: Average game, at best.  Really shaky against the pass rush.

Def: Gashed on the ground but mostly held passing game in check.  Good pass rush.  Gave up good games to RB and #1 and #3 WRs.

Week 15 – vs Oakland – W 31-13

QB: Smith a good game because of receivers making big plays after the catch.  A fluky one.

RB: Charles didn’t get enough touches to have a good game.  Got vultured.  Davis a huge game with a long TD catch and run.  Fluky for him but still inexplicable why he doesn’t get more touches.

WR: Bowe a decent game but still not a WR on this team that can be trusted in fantasy.

TE: Kelce a big game and also baffling why he doesn’t get more touches consistently.  Did lose a fumble but still a great talent.

OL: Good game against weak D.  Did everything well as expected.

Def: Was getting to the QB late but not early.  Mostly avoided the big plays and covered well.  Gave up good PPR games to WRs and TE.  Held the rest in check.

Week 16 – @ Pittsburgh – L 12-20

QB: Smith a decent game despite taking a lot of sacks.  Just isn’t throwing TD passes and receivers just aren’t breaking any long ones.  Did miss an open WR on a long TD pass.

RB: Charles an okay game but team chose not to run the ball for some reason.  Head-scratcher.

WR: Wilson another solid game and looks like he has decent ability.  Not elite speed but good hands and gets open.  Bowe dropped a TD but had okay game.  Still not usable.

TE: Kelce did little and wasn’t targeted enough.  Should be getting far more looks than he is right now and, considering Andy Reid’s history, could be a big sleeper next season.

OL: Below-average game.  Got QB hit a bunch and wasn’t doing a ton on limited runs.  Possibly fault of play calling that they didn’t get in a better rhythm.

Def: Was stout and contained good O pretty well.  Pass rush wasn’t great and should have been better.  Strong against the run.  Gave up nice games to RB, #1 WR, and TE.

Week 17 – vs SD – W 19-7

QB: Daniel looked panicked and did little.  Missed some throws and didn’t handle pressure at all.

RB: Charles an average game as Davis got a few more touches than normal.  Charles still looked good but needs the better QB back there.

WR: Hurt by QB play.  Wilson zero.  Bowe came within inches on TD but did little otherwise.  No reason to draft either guy next season because ceilings are so low.

TE: Kelce another good game and looked great.  Could be a top 5 TE next season if he stays healthy.

OL: Run blocking was okay but had some trouble with pass rush although QB made them look worse.

Def: Was getting run on for a bit.  Pass rush was elite.  Still thrown on for plenty.  Gave up good games to RB, WRs, and TE.
