New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 6

Week 6 – vs Atlanta – W 31-21

QB: Brees a good game but only one TD.  Abused the D going to TEs and looked great on his accuracy to them.  Getting better every week it seems.

RB: Ingram a good game despite low yardage.  Looks great but line did him no favors in tough match up here.  Will continue to be fine in better match ups.

WR: Snead and Cooks held to average games.  Game plan seem to be for TEs to dominate early and often so probably an anomaly.  Not worried about them because of this game.

TE: Watson a huge game and game plan clearly designed for him to dominate.  Got targeted from start to finish.  Wouldn’t expect it to continue.

OL: Protected really well in this one.  Couldn’t get any push for run game.  Tough match up so expect better against weaker teams.

Def: Pass rush was good and helped by shaky game from QB.  Everything else was bad.  Can’t contain the run.  Coverage on good WRs is terrible.  Gave up monster to RB.  Good game to WR.

New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – @ Philly – L 17-39

QB: Brees was rushed heavily and had some passes dropped.  Still put up good numbers as garbage time saved him.  Protection should be better than this.

RB: Ingram an average game as deficit limited touches.  Looked good and was moving piles and getting extra yards.  Would have been a huge game for him if the score was close.

WR: Cooks and Snead huge games although a decent chunk for both came in garbage time.  Snead is the clear #2 option now and worth owning in leagues and starting when the match up is right.  Not a superstar but a solid player.  Skills are good overall but not elite anywhere.

TE: Watson a nice game making a TD grab.  Still not being targeted enough to use and justifiably so.  He’s a savvy veteran but the skills aren’t really there anymore.

OL: Solid run blocking.  Was making good holes for runners.  Awful pass protection.  Just couldn’t handle D line at times.  Has to be better than this.

Def: Pretty awful everywhere.  Got ran on almost at will by O.  Pass rush was nonexistent.  Pass coverage was actually fairly good but it came against weaker receiving corps.  Gave up good games everywhere.

New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 2

Week 2 – vs Tampa Bay – L 19-26

QB: Brees dinged a little in first half.  Protection still having issues.  Was throwing pretty well until the injury.  Didn’t look good on deep balls.

RB: Ingram still looks like the main guy.  Had good game getting a goal line TD and more receptions.  Spiller did look fast as usual on his touches.  Robinson still runs extremely well.  I’m believing in Ingram for now.  Need better blocking.

WR: Cooks and Colston decent games while Snead got TD.  Cooks still looks like the most talented right now and I see no reason to think he won’t be a strong #2 and possible #1 WR.  Coleman starting to look more enticing.  Would be a stud if he started getting regular targets.

TE: Watson did little and this might continue as TE is needed more for blocking than receiving.  Kind of thinking no TE on this team will be fantasy relevant rest of season.

OL: Got dominated by defensive front.  Couldn’t open up anything for running game.  Pass protection was iffy.  So far, the off season acquisitions are not panning out.

Def: Was getting run on for plenty and coverage was not great.  Start everyone against until things change.  Gave up good games to RB and #2 WR (#1 WR was decoy in this one).

New Orleans Saints Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 1

Week 1 – @ Arizona – L 19-31

QB: Brees looked pretty good behind a better line.  A little out of sync with receivers at times but should be very good as the season progresses.  Wasn’t getting every other pass knocked down at the LOS like last season.

RB: Ingram and Robinson looked good running when space was there.  Excellent receiving games for both.  They’re so good it’s hard to imagine where Spiller fits in when he returns.  He really isn’t needed at the moment.

WR: Cooks an okay game but just didn’t convert any of the big plays.  He will in the weeks to come and is still a stud.  Coleman a good game and looks good enough to at least get as many targets as Colston, if not more.  Colston looked rough in this one.

TE:  Watson okay but will be a gamble every week.  Until there is some consistency, stay away.  I just don’t see a whole lot here fantasy-wise.

OL: Vastly improved from last season.  Just a night and day difference, especially in pass protection.  Tough match up in run game in this one but the talent here makes this offense really dangerous every game.

Def: Just as bad as they were early last season.  Wasn’t stopping the run.  Torched through the air.  Amazing Ryan is still the DC.  Gave up good games to virtually every position.  Start everyone against until they stop a few teams.

New Orleans Saints Week 17 Fantasy Analysis

Week 17 – @ TB – W 23-20

QB: Brees okay numbers but 3 picks and some bad decisions and throws.  Got Graham lit up a couple times.  Line still isn’t helping.

RB: Ingram a good game getting one TD but having another vultured.  Could be a stud depending on where he’s playing next season.

WR: Stills a good game making some long plays.  Colston a good game getting a long TD catch and run but little else.  Stills could be a breakout next season depending on Colston’s role.

TE: Graham an okay game but took some hard hits.  Stayed in the game but definitely needs better throws to avoid those shots.

OL: Same story all season.  Good run blocking but shaky pass protection.  Definitely needs the improvement for QB’s sake.

Def: Pretty good pass rush disrupted well.  Got trampled on the ground and looked awful.  Gave up good games to 2 RBs and #1 WR.

New Orleans Saints Week 16 Fantasy Analysis

Week 16 – vs Atlanta – L 14-30

QB: Brees a decent game but hit a ton due to line again.  Needs a big improvement or he might not make it through next season without injury.

RB: Ingram a good game but didn’t get much help from line against relatively weak D at home.  Is definitely a good player and could be great in the right situation.

WR: Colston and Stills decent games and similar numbers.  Stills looks like he might really emerge next season but will still have some stinkers in this offense.

TE: Graham a good game and had 2nd TD but was not called one on atrocious decision by refs.  Continuing to get healthier but too little too late now.

OL: Just all kinds of bad.  Did nothing well this game and needs a big change before next season.  Definitely one of the most glaring weaknesses of this team.

Def: Strong game against the run and weak O-line.  No pass rush.  Couldn’t stop/cover stud WR.  Gave up good games to receiving RB and #1 WR.  Wasn’t stopping much else.

New Orleans Saints Week 15 Fantasy Analysis

Week 15 – @ Chicago – W 31-15

QB: Brees a huge game despite pass protection continuing to breakdown more than it should.  Line is so much worse than people probably realize.

RB: Ingram and Thomas both good games with most of Thomas’ work coming through receiving.  Have to believe Ingram will be undervalued in drafts next season.

WR: Stills and Colston similar numbers but Colston got a good TD grab.  Stills might be poised for a big season next year, especially if Colston gets more phased out.

TE: Graham better and seems to be healthier but still not 100%.  Have to hope one more week will get him back to normal.

OL: Same story all season.  Run blocking was okay but pass protection was shaky.  Run blocking should have been better in this one.

Def: Helped by atrocious QB play.  Pass rush was good but QB made it look better.  Wasn’t stopping the run.  Gave up good games to RB and WRs.

New Orleans Saints Week 14 Fantasy Analysis

Week 14 – vs Carolina – L 10-41

QB: Brees hurt badly by drops in this one.  Average game but should have been far better.  O-line also continues to hurt his play.

RB: Ingram looked good but average numbers because of deficit.  Thomas a little disappointing considering the situation.  Ingram still the most talented back on this team.

WR: Colston a decent game as Stills did little.  Stills would be better if line would give QB enough time.

TE: Graham another bad game and dropped quite a few balls apparently due to shoulder injury.  Might have to stay away for another week.

OL: Same story all season.  Solid run blocking but hurting passing game.

Def: Atrocious.  Couldn’t stop the run at all and was not shedding blocks.  Not great in coverage.  Gave up huge games to scrambling QB, RB, and TE.  Also good game to #1 WR.  Held nothing in check.

New Orleans Saints Week 13 Fantasy Analysis

Week 13 – @ Pittsburgh – W 35-32

QB: Brees a huge game as protection was good and running game was great.  Picked apart bad D with ease.

RB: Ingram looks phenomenal right now.  Incredible vision and speed.  Could be a sneaky pick on draft day next season.

WR: Stills another huge game and looks like a great option to keep it going the rest of the way.  Is really playing great right now.  Colston a good game because of TD grab but little else, including a bad drop.

TE: Graham not targeted.  Just baffling.  He’s too good for that to ever happen and the coverage wasn’t that good.

OL: Played well against weak D.  Good game all-around, even the pass protection.

Def: Annihilated.  Didn’t stop the run and picked apart through the air despite QB having shaky game.  Gave up huge games to RB, QB, #1 WR and big game to TE.  Decent game by #2 WR as well.

New Orleans Saints Week 12 Fantasy Analysis

Week 12 – vs Baltimore – L 27-34

QB: Brees a monster game despite more terrible protection.  Still great but he can only do so much with guys in his face every play.  It’s nice when they play from behind.

RB: Shutdown by D.  Ingram got no room and Thomas had decent PPR game.  Hard to use when line plays this bad.

WR: Stills a big PPR game and Colston a good game getting a somewhat lucky TD (bad safety play, should have been batted).  Stills might be a solid play rest of season with Cooks out.

TE: Graham another huge game.  Nothing more needs to be added.

OL: Terrible.  Masked by their QB a bit but still awful in this one.  Cannot pass protect and run blocking was also bad in this one.  Has to get a lot better quick.

Def: Awful again.  Got trampled by ground game and dominated up front.  Coverage was really bad at times as well.  Gave up monster to RB and big games to WRs.  Held TE to nearly nothing.
