Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 5

Week 5 – vs NO – W 39-17

QB: Bradford mostly good despite two really terrible throws for picks in the end zone early.  Suffered from some horribly timed drops by his receivers as well.  Starting to look better but this came against a weak D.

RB: Murray and Mathews big games with similar numbers despite Murray getting over double the number of touches.  Got good blocking and ran well.  Good receiving game for Murray.  Probably too late to buy low now.

WR: Matthews an okay game and didn’t look particularly good here.  Dropped a sure and easy TD, although a penalty would have negated it.  No idea who the #2 is.  Huff had good game but not trusting yet.

TE: Celek and Ertz had nice games with Celek getting the TD.  Looks like a TE-by-committee situation right now and not worth playing if it can be avoided.  No one is running away with the job.  Look like the same player.

OL: Big improvement overall against a weak D.  Negated pass rush.  Was actually getting some push on run plays.  Have to hope this keeps up.

Def: Pass rush was very good.  The rest wasn’t.  Wasn’t stopping the run before big lead forced the pass.  Got thrown on for plenty before garbage time.  Gave up big games to WRs and TE.

Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 4

Week 4 – @ Washington – L 20-23

QB: Bradford a good fantasy game but was hit and sacked a ton.  Definitely holds the ball too long for this offense.  Doesn’t throw when guys are open early.

RB: Murray and Mathews bad games.  Tough match up but neither can be trusted right now.  Almost desperation plays at this point.  Line just isn’t good enough.

WR: Matthews an average game and wasn’t making plays.  Agholor made one good play then looked awful.  Cooper a long TD but little else.  Matthews is usable.  The rest aren’t.

TE: Ertz did little as Celek got a TD.  Not usable and beginning to wonder what people saw in Ertz.

OL: Run blocking looked improved against tough D but still not great.  Pass protection was awful.  Killing this team.

Def: Pretty awful.  Run D wasn’t terrible but not that good.  Thrown on for plenty by suspect passing game.  Couldn’t stop #1 WR or backups.  Coverage was there but wasn’t making plays.  Gave up good game to #1 WR.

Philadelphia Eagles Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 3

Week 3 – @ NYJ – W 24-17

QB: Bradford not great as running game did a ton of work.  Wasn’t incredibly accurate.  Just wasn’t throwing the ball all that well.  Almost looked intimidated.

RB: Murray DNP.  Mathews a big game, running really well and nabbing a TD grab.  Should be getting more time on the field even when Murray is healthy.  Sproles a big game getting a PR TD along with rushing TD.  He’s still one of the biggest risk/rewards out there.

WR: Run game dominated.  Matthews only WR to catch passes.  Had a decent game and was beating the great coverage in this one.  Really looks like a stud and shouldn’t be sat regardless of match up.

TE: Ertz did little.  Can’t be trusted unless match up is incredible.  Even then, he wouldn’t be started with confidence.

OL: Big improvement over first couple of weeks but still not great.  Gave running game enough space to put up below average YPC numbers as opposed to awful.  Getting better but still a weakness.

Def: Early lead forced O to throw.  Was average against run game missing starter.  Pass rush wasn’t great.  Coverage was good but was still beaten by elite #1 WR.  Gave up big game to #1 WR.  Not a ton elsewhere.

San Diego Chargers Week 14 Fantasy Analysis

Week 14 – vs NE – L 14-23

QB: Rivers a bad game due to break downs in protection on blitzes.  Had guys come unblocked at him far too many times.

RB: Mathews looked good but not enough carries.  Got hurt for a bit but came back.  Will still be good when healthy.  Brown a decent game receiving.

WR:  Allen held to nearly nothing.  Barely looked at.  Floyd a good game with the TD.  Continues to win a jump ball or two nearly every game.

TE: Gates an average game but just didn’t catch a big one.  Was getting the targets, however.

OL: Solid run blocking on limited carries.  Pass protection kept breaking down badly on blitzes.

Def: Run D was strong despite looking shaky early.  Couldn’t stop the stars in the passing game.  No pass rush.  Gave up big games to QB, TE, and #2 WR.

San Diego Chargers Week 13 Fantasy Analysis

Week 13 – @ Baltimore – W 34-33

QB: Rivers a monster game as he made good throws and receivers made great plays.  Was rushed early but line played better as game went on.

RB: Mathews a good game with a good TD run.  Wasn’t getting great blocking.

WR: Allen a monster game and it’s baffling why he wasn’t getting more targets earlier in the season.  Made some incredible plays.  Royal and Floyd both good games with Royal getting a ton of short catches and runs.

TE: Gates another big game but did look a little slower in this one.  Might be wearing down a bit.

OL: Was bad early all-around but turned it around.  Played well later as they were forced to throw a ton.

Def: Continues to be run on fairly easily.  Pass rush not great.  Gave up big games to QB, RB, and #1 WR.  Held others in check.

San Diego Chargers Week 12 Fantasy Analysis

Week 12 – vs St. Louis – W 27-24

QB: Rivers a nice game with a lot of short throws giving his receivers room to make plays after the catch.  Not sure why this offense doesn’t look like this more often.

RB: Mathews looked great and had big game.  Oliver still involved in the passing game and will have some big plays from time to time.  But Mathews looked really good here.

WR: Allen a big game making some great plays after the catch.  Floyd did little.  Royal a nice PPR game.  Floyd will suffer the most in a game where they keep looking short like this.

TE: Gates did little along with Green.  Just didn’t need to throw their way as others were wide open often on the outside.

OL: Strong game against a hot front 7.  Did everything well and surprised with how good they looked.

Def: Helped by struggling QB and a lot of timely penalties.  Okay against the run and solid against the pass.  Gave up good games to RB and #2 & #3 WRs.  Held everything else in check.

San Diego Chargers Week 11 Fantasy Analysis

Week 11 – vs Oakland – W 13-6

QB: Rivers a below-average game.  Pass rush got to him a little.  Wasn’t able to throw to open receivers much of the game.

RB: Mathews returned and looked healthy.  Back to where he was and should be fine for now.  Oliver got plenty of touches but did little.  Blocking wasn’t great for either guy, especially later in the game.

WR: Allen a solid game but still not doing a ton.  Floyd made great TD catch early but did little after that.  Neither is producing as much as they should.

TE: Gates did little.  Passing game just not very good in this one.

OL: Didn’t play as well as they normally do.  Blocking was good early but got worse as game wore on.

Def: Stout game.  Won TOP and gave up little.  Some big plays but no TDs.  Gave up no good games to any player.  Coverage was really good and pass rush was strong against solid O-line.

San Diego Chargers Week 2 Fantasy Analysis

Week 2 – vs Seattle – W 30-21

QB: Rivers played an incredible game.  Stepped up in the pocket, avoided the rush, made great throws, and only took one sack.  Looks like a top 5 QB when he plays like this.

RB: Mathews looked good but is hurt and out a while.  Woodhead and Brown were both okay.  Brown doesn’t have Mathews’ burst.  Should be good with blocking they are getting right now.

WR: Allen a decent game, even catching some balls with Sherman covering.  Floyd disappeared.  Royal got a ton of screens with excellent blocking and led WRs.

TE: Gates was incredible.  Caught all three of Rivers’ TDs.  Looks like Green will have to wait for an injury or another season.

OL: Did a great job being very physical.  A ton of big hits, especially on outside plays.  Dealt really well with pressure up the middle, letting Rivers step up in the pocket all game.  Run blocking was strong.

Def: Early lead kept ball out of Lynch’s hands.  Didn’t really stop the run when Seattle did run.  Pressured Wilson a ton.  Didn’t cover RBs on pass plays.  Good coverage on WRs.

San Diego Chargers Week 1 Fantasy Analysis

Week 1 – @ Arizona – L 17-18

QB: Rivers looked fine and was hurt by some drops.  Would expect this offense to get better as the season progresses.

RB: Little room to run this game.  Mathews ran well but couldn’t get anything going between the tackles.  Woodhead disappointing.  Might not be great unless injuries happen to other targets.

WR: Allen was covered by Peterson and did little as expected.  Only caught short passes around the line, basically.  Floyd had a nice game.  Allen will take more of his looks against lesser CBs.

TE: Gates was solid but had some drops.  Green was okay but just isn’t going to get enough throws with Gates there.

OL: Very sub-par run blocking.  Pass blocking wasn’t bad.  Didn’t handle Arizona front at all on the runs.

Def: Made a lot of big plays but still gave up a lot of yards both on the ground and through the air.  Flowers covered Fitz most of the game and shut him down.  Takes a lot of risks with blitzes.
