Tennessee Titans Fantasy Football Analysis – Week 7

Week 7 – vs Atlanta – L 7-10

QB: Mettenberger was terrible and is certainly no threat to Mariota.  Tough match up but he still made some bad decisions and throws.  Nothing to consider unless match up was amazing.

RB: Andrews an okay game and McCluster a good PPR game.  Nothing overly exciting about Andrews.  Not incredibly fast or powerful.  Reminds me of Zac Stacy in a worse situation.

WR: Wright a good game nabbing a TD but not a ton else.  Covered well and just couldn’t make many plays.  Hunter had one of the worst drops of the season.  Not seeing a #2 WR right now.

TE: Walker an average game and still a good PPR option.  Needs others to take some pressure off.  Can’t make too many plays when he’s blanketed so closely.

OL: Decent game overall.  Kept QB up but wasn’t great.  Gave space for runners on limited carries.  Team probably should have run a lot more in this one.

Def: Trampled by sizzling run game.  Played well against the pass.  No pass rush.  Helped by off game by QB and WRs.  Gave up good game to RB and #1 WR.

Tennessee Titans Week 14 Fantasy Analysis

Week 14 – vs NYG – L 7-36

QB: Mettenberger was bad before injury.  Locker decent after he settled in.  Both were hit a ton as O-line was awful.

RB: Sankey did little as carries were limited by deficit.  Blocking wasn’t great anyway.

WR: Hagan led team but all hurt by QB play.  Washington okay and could still hit a big play.  Locker’s return might actually help.

TE: Walker did little and also hurt by QB play.  Should be better going forward as long as QB improves.

OL: Horrible.  Did very little for run game and got QB killed.  Looked like they had quit.

Def: Just horrendous.  Got trampled on the ground and manhandled in the trenches.  Couldn’t stop Beckham.  Gave up huge games to #1 WR and RB.  Held rest in check but not by talent.  By game-flow.

Tennessee Titans Week 13 Fantasy Analysis

Week 13 – @ Houston – L 21-45

QB: Mettenberger okay but injured.  Locker played very poorly in relief.  Both were rushed a ton and not getting the ball out as fast as they should have.

RB: Sankey looked good again but deficit limited carries.  Still think he has the talent but line and play-calling not helping him at all.

WR: Hunter injured early.  Wright a huge game and looked great making some highlight-reel plays.  Washington a good game but probably got Hunter’s targets.

TE: Walker did nearly nothing.  Tough match up and should be better going forward.

OL: Couldn’t handle pass rush at all.  Run blocking was pretty strong against weaker run D.

Def: Obliterated through the air and run D was below-average.  Couldn’t cover WRs or RB.  Gave up monster games to QB and #1 WR and big games to #2 WR and receiving RB.

Grading My Last Minute Pickups of Week 12

Time to grade my week 12 pickups.  A very boom and bust week for these picks.  I said they had high ceilings and low floors and that came to fruition.  As always, I’ll be using the NFL.com projections and scoring for the grades.

Pickup of the Week – QB Zach Mettenberger – Projected 22nd among QB – Finished 10th – Grade: A+

TD to Hunter was a little fluky but it was still headed to him and, if it were a couple more inches higher, no one would call it a fluke.  He’s playing better every week and is worth consideration when the match up is good.  The Titans certainly don’t seem too interested in running the ball…

RB Dan Herron – Projected 73rd among RB – Finished 26th – Grade: A

Would have finished a little higher if not for the fumble.  Should have finished lower but his other fumble got credited to Luck.  Looked very good and should see plenty of touches for the rest of season.

WR Jermaine Kearse – Projected 80th among WR – Finished 76th – Grade: F

Disappointed yet again.  Still believe if he was on a passing team he would be a good fantasy option.  Seattle is just too erratic to ever confidently trust their WRs.

WR Charles Johnson – Projected 223rd among WR (not kidding, look it up) – Finished 12th – Grade: A++++++++times infinity

Really like what this guy is doing right now and looks like he has played his way past almost every other receiving option on his team.  Not a bad option, especially in PPR.  Might be a sneaky good play the next 2 weeks as well.

TE Eric Ebron – Projected 24th among TE – Finished 30th – Grade: F-

Played terrible and just doesn’t look like a very good receiver right now.  Maybe he’ll break out at some point, but it’s too costly to trust him for now.

Tennessee Titans Week 12 Fantasy Analysis

Week 12 – @ Philadelphia – L 24-43

QB: Mettenberger a big game despite a lot of pressure and some sacks.  Would have been even better if receivers had made a few more plays they should have made.

RB: Sankey held in check but looks great when blocking is there.  Just not a good line in front of him right now.  Might be a big surprise next season if they work on that in off-season.  Greene got the goal line TD.

WR: Hunter a TD off a tipped pass and had a few balls he should have caught.  Good game on stat sheet but should have been better.  Wright should have been better as well.  Washington a better game than Wright again.

TE: Walker a huge game but just missed a TD.  Made some great plays in this one and have to believe QB is going to start trusting him more considering play of him vs WRs.

OL: Still not run blocking well.  Pass protection had plenty of holes in this one as well but not bad for most of the game.

Def: Abused everywhere again.  Stopped nothing and bad tackling on top of it.  Gave up huge game to RBs and good games to QB, WRs, and TEs.

Last Minute Fantasy Football Pickup of Week 12 – Zach Mettenberger

All of these picks have high ceilings this week, in my opinion, but also very low floors.  Really tough choice for the pickup of the week.

Pickup of the Week – QB Zach Mettenberger – Tennessee Titans – Owned 9% at most on sites (<1% on some)

Travels to Philly this week, a match up that seems good but you really can’t love a rookie QB heading into that stadium on a short week.  On top of that, I haven’t been overly impressed with his play up to this point.  (I’m really selling this, aren’t I?!)  That being said, I think the Titans built some momentum in their close game with the Steelers last Monday and they get Delanie Walker back this week.  Since the Eagles give up a ton of points, you have to believe Mettenberger can put together a pretty good fantasy game and throw multiple TDs.  You just have to hope the Eagles don’t play too angry and pitch a shutout on D after their embarrassment in Green Bay last week.  (Projection: 250-3)

Honorable Mentions

RB Dan Herron – Indianapolis Colts – 27% (<2%)

I would like Herron more if he had a better pass-catching history.  I’ve been impressed with him on his few touches this season and last and think he could be a good play.  Just wish Indy’s O-line could run block a little better. (50 total yards-1)

WR Jermaine Kearse – Seattle Seahawks – 5% (<3%)

I’m going back to him again despite him letting me down so much.  I think the Cards run D might force a few more throws from Wilson and Kearse ends up with good numbers.  I’ll probably regret believing in him, yet again… (80-1)

WR Charles Johnson – Minnesota Vikings – 1% (<1%)

Would love this pick if Jennings and Wright were out but it looks like they are suiting up.  Love what I’ve seen out of him and think he could still make an impact this week in garbage time.  (60-1)

TE Eric Ebron – Detroit Lions – 20% (<4%)

After Fleener’s performance against the Pats last week, it’s easy to be excited about Ebron as he gets more involved in the offense this week.  He’s been hard to trust but I think he snags a TD this week.  (35-1)

Tennessee Titans Week 11 Fantasy Analysis

Week 11 – vs Pittsburgh – L 24-27

QB: Mettenberger good numbers but not that great a game.  Blown coverage for long TD saved his numbers.  Just not looking impressive yet.

RB: Sankey looked pretty good again but they went away from the run…again.  Has the talent but can’t be trusted due to coaching decisions.

WR: Washington 1 catch for long TD on blown coverage.  Wright a good game and looked good.  Hunter decent but still not doing enough.

TE: Coffman a good game getting a nice TD grab while filling in for Walker.  Looks like a good backup.

OL: Looked decent all-around.  Run blocking was there but team went away from it.  Pretty good pass protection against weaker D.

Def: Got trampled and had bad game against weak O-line.  Contained passing game.  Gave up monster to RB and good games to #1 WR and TE.  Held rest in check.

Tennssee Titans Week 10 Fantasy Analysis

Week 10 – @ Baltimore – L 7-21

QB: Mettenberger rushed and hit a ton.  Seemed to panic a bit and didn’t play well at all.  Was holding the ball too long at times.

RB: Sankey continues to quietly look good when blocking is there but just wasn’t there enough this game.  Got some extra yardage with effort quite a few times in this one.  Have to like the progression right now.

WR: QB struggled hurt.  Wright a decent game but still just not doing enough.  Hunter only 1 catch and got hit with a penalty on another great catch early.  Did little after.

TE: Walker injured early.  No one else mattered.

OL: Struggled against the pass rush and didn’t open up a ton on the ground.  RB made them look better than they really were.

Def: Gashed on the ground by speed back.  Just couldn’t get to him at times.  Good pass rush helped keep passing game in check.  Gave up monster to RB and good game to #1 WR.  Held everything else in check but more due to QB play.

Tennessee Titans Week 8 Fantasy Analysis

Week 8 – vs Houston – L 16-30

QB: Mettenberger solid in first start.  Spread the ball around a ton.  Was playing from behind and running game didn’t matter.  Have to wait and see on him.

RB: Deficit limited carries.  Sankey looks okay but blocking isn’t great and will not matter when they get killed.  Decent receiving game for him.

WR: Hunter got TD but passes were spread out.  Similar numbers on catches and yards for Hunter, Washington, and Wright.  Have to see who new QB will go to more in coming weeks.

TE: Walker got TD and had good game because of it.  Have to hope he has good rapport with Mettenberger.

OL: Not enough runs to judge but didn’t look great.  Okay pass blocking but nothing great.

Def: Obliterated on the ground.  Gave up monster to RB both rushing and receiving.  Also gave up a lot to WRs.  Looked awful all-around.
