Carolina Panthers Week 10 Fantasy Analysis

Week 10 – @ Philadelphia – L 21-45

QB: Newton sacked and hit a ton and looked slow when he scrambled.  Made some terrible throws and decisions.  Didn’t take what D was giving him at times.  Forced a lot.

RB: Stewart got a short TD.  Williams got one more touch.  Neither got any blocking but looked good when they got space.  Not usable until line gets better.

WR: Benjamin got 2 garbage-time TDs but little else.  Couple more drops but is still clearly the best option on the team and really talented.  No reason to sit him regardless of match up.  Other WRs didn’t matter in this one.

TE: Olsen a good game making some great catches.  Didn’t get a TD but they were rarely in red zone.  Still a stud right now.

OL: Atrocious.  Just got ran over all game.  Couldn’t handle pressure at all and got QB flattened.

Def: Run D stayed strong all game.  Never got tired but team did win TOP big despite score.  Torched through the air by 3 players who started the season as backups.  Monster game to #2 WR and huge games to QB and TE.  Did hold Maclin in check.

Carolina Panthers Week 9 Fantasy Analysis

Week 9 – vs NO – L 10-28

QB: Newton pretty bad in this game.  Refused to make short throws/check-downs most of the game.  Got rushed pretty well.  Ran well again but passing numbers were terrible.

RB: Limited carries because of deficit.  Stewart and Williams looked okay when blocking was there but that was rare.  Still a mess, especially with O-line troubles right now.

WR: Benjamin a bad game, producing little and dropping a TD.  Part of the blame goes to QB but Benjamin didn’t make plays either.  Cotchery had a long play but little else.  Still can’t trust.

TE: Olsen covered well and had below-average game because of it.  The longer throws all game also didn’t help.

OL: Very average here.  Run blocking was very hit and miss and pass blocking was below-average as someone was getting to QB all game.  Couldn’t pick up blitzers very well.

Def: Bad game all-around again.  Rarely blitzed but it was working when they did.  Four man rush was still getting to QB.  Gave up big games to QB, RB, and TE.  Good game by 3rd (? Stills) WR.  Others held in check.

Carolina Panthers Week 8 Fantasy Analysis

Week 8 – vs Seattle – L 9-13

QB: Newton looked bad as pass rush was getting to him all game.  Scrambled a bunch but was contained well.

RB: Stewart looked good as run blocking helped him a ton.  Not real explosive but a sufficient job taking what was given to him.  Still nothing to get too excited about for fantasy.

WR: Benjamin continues to be a stud.  A good game despite Sherman on him.  Looks unstoppable as long as he gets throws.  Cotchery some good catches but not enough passing in this one.

TE: Olsen held to nearly nothing.  Seemed to not even get looks.

OL: Good run blocking but atrocious pass blocking.  Couldn’t handle pass rush at all, even without the blitz.

Def: D-line played extremely well as they dominated O-line.  Run D against Lynch was good except for one play.  Contained QB pretty well.  Gave up decent game to #1 WR and a TD to TE.  Should have been a 2nd TE TD.

Carolina Panthers Week 7 Fantasy Analysis

Week 7 – @ GB – L 17-38

QB: Newton okay but pass rush was effective.  Is running well but sometimes not protecting himself and risking the injuries.  Needs a better run game behind him.

RB: Stewart looked okay but just isn’t that good.  Speed really isn’t there and not enough power to run over many.  Williams should be the starter and should be getting 20+ carries when he returns.

WR: Benjamin is a stud and can’t be sat regardless of match up.  Makes plays virtually every week now and got another TD this game.  Other WRs can’t be trusted for anything.  Cotchery still leading those guys.

TE: Olsen another big game.  Looks like one of the most reliable receivers in the league right now and makes plays when he gets space.

OL: Pretty good all-around but did have some trouble with the pass rush at times.  Still played really well and better than the score indicated.

Def: Obliterated yet again.  3 TDs to 3 WRs and 2 TDs to 2 RBs.  Can’t sit anyone against this D.  Only thing that was held in check was underused TE.

Carolina Panthers Week 3 Fantasy Analysis

Week 3 – vs Pittsburgh – L 19-37

QB: Newton had a decent game but didn’t run much and got hit quite a bit despite facing a ton of 3-man rushes (with a spy).  Pitt may have given teams the blueprint for facing this team.

RB: Did nearly nothing as they played from behind all game.  Stewart just doesn’t look impressive in any way.  Williams should be getting 20-25+ carries a game when he returns.

WR: Benjamin a stud again but his long TD did come late against a back up.  Hard not to consider him a must-start at this point.  Brown had a good receiving performance and is worth keeping an eye on.

TE: Olsen another big game.  Long play also came late but still a stud.

OL: Pretty bad performance.  Didn’t get much going on the ground.  Got the QB rushed quite a bit, even when facing 3-man rushes.  Some of the sacks came against those and they weren’t necessarily coverage sacks.

Def: Annihilated on the ground.  Gave up 2 100-yard rushers.  Got torched by WR Brown for 10 catches and 2 TDs.  Looked pretty bad all-around and got manhandled by the O-line.

Carolina Panthers Week 2 Fantasy Analysis

Week 2 – vs Detroit – W 24-7

QB: Newton returned and looked okay against a tough pass rush.  Moved well.  Throws were really good but had some bad drops.  No running game this game and it didn’t matter.

RB: Stewart looked okay running hard with Williams out but couldn’t go anywhere against elite front.  Good game with goal line TD.  Williams looked better in week 1.

WR: Benjamin had some drops but got plenty of looks from Cam.  His size gets him throws in coverage.  Avant had big game but wouldn’t count on that again.  Cotchery okay but can’t be used in fantasy yet.

TE: Olsen looked great and was leading receiver.  Think Benjamin’s presence opens things up for him a bit more.

OL: Did okay job against great pass rush but still got QB hit a bit.  Couldn’t open up anything on the ground.  Forced them to go to the air.

Def: D-Line did a great job rushing the QB.  Stopped the running game.  Coverage was okay but could stop Johnson from catching balls.

Carolina Panthers Week 1 Fantasy Analysis

Week 1 – @ TB – W 20-14

QB: Anderson was pretty good in the spot start.  Was finding open receivers and made good throws all game.  Surprisingly mobile as well.

RB: Tolbert should not be getting the touches he does.  Williams looks a step faster than Stewart but both looked fine when they got room.  Stewart caught the most passes but I wouldn’t count on that.

WR: Benjamin looks like a stud.  Caught every catch-able ball that came his way and did so whether in traffic or covered closely.  Cotchery was okay and will have some good weeks but likely erratic.

TE: Olsen also looked great.  Benjamin’s presence opened up the middle and he took advantage.  Could be a huge year for him if that continues.

OL: Was better run blocking than stats suggest.  Tolbert’s short yardage carries drug the numbers down.  Pass blocking was also pretty good.  Kept Anderson upright most of the time.

Def: Pretty much dominated.  Take away one big FB run and the numbers are extremely good.  Coverage wasn’t elite but didn’t let anything get behind them.
